Hi,
I'm back after trying to see if my centrals subsided with time after starting the Airsense 10 in July -- it's been a couple months and the AHI's stayed the same -- around 25, with a good 60-80% of those being central's according to the machine. So I got an in-lab study a week ago which confirmed centrals. They also titrated for a bipap with pressures of 15/4.
My question -- I thought for sure after my research that my doc would prescribe an ASV machine for me vs the ST. However, he just told me "ST, no ASV."
Cost is not really an issue -- I am curious what others think? I am a bit concerned about the fixed pressure, which is actually quite a bit higher than the highest my CPAP gave me (median was 8.5, with highest being 11)

I also have a number of events nightly. Mostly Centrals - (last night i have 198 centrals, 58 obstructive events), and well while I was swapping out masks the medical supply tech guy was saying that I am most likley going to be prescribed Bi-Pap at first like a 2 week trial, as sometimes it does take care of centrals if that does not work then ASV. I've been told that is an old school way of thinking and that indeed an ASV would be best(for me). Will know more monday, good luck, am sure someone with more info will help ya with those questions just sharing what ive heard/seen etc.

I don't understand all the differences as to why one machine for centrals is preferred over another but I think a lot of it has to do with the primary diagnosis.
My understanding (which could be incomplete) is that if centrals are the majority of the problem that often the ST type of machines are used.
It's when we have to treat both central apnea and obstructive apnea that the ASV comes more into play because it will treat both.
I would suggest asking the doctor for why this type of machine...he may have a very logical reason and knows your history.
