Newbie Progress Tracker - Looking For Veteran Input As Neede

Post by Newbie Status - Veteran Input Welcome » Thu Nov 05, 2015 6:17 am

Hello All!

Just got a ResMed 10 Autoset with ResMed Pillow Mask yesterday. I ran across this forum and found a lot of people like me (symptoms/problems/etc).

I wanted to create this thread to track my progress and allow veterans to give me suggestions if/when I run into snags.

First night on the hose:

I had a little bit of a problem getting used to the constant airflow into my lungs. For a couple of hours, I felt like a big balloon and my lungs were being over inflated. It felt like a cool sensation in my lungs where air never seemed to have touched before. Having the mask on my face and the hose laying around was a nuisance for a bit, but didn't bother me as much as I expected. After these couple of hours adjusting, I did end up falling to sleep...

I do recall that I quit breathing multiple times in the night (about 3 times that I remember). Every once in a while, I would wake up with air coming out of my mouth (I think I can limit this as I get used to the setup). Moisture levels in my body were better then normal, but I'll probably turn up the humidity tonight (normally, I am very dry in the AM). I think the pressure settings are a bit low, but I also think it's too early to make drastic changes just yet. It will be easier for me to get used to the system while the pressure is lower.

When I woke up, I thought that the system was not working because I had adjusted to the pressure that kept me from falling asleep. I will remain at this pressure tonight and see how long it takes me to acclimated to it again tonight.

Changes: My eyes seem to be a bit more responsive and pic up a bit more detail then normal. My taste buds are working more then normal (I can actually taste my breakfast/normally I can't taste foods well).

Will post machine results once they get posted to the cloud.

One other note: The pillow mask did hurt my nose a bit. I had read about leeks and such and wanted to make sure I didn't have that problem. Maybe I over-tightened a bit. Not a big deal.

First Night Device Results:
10hrs and 20mins
Seal good on mask
3.9 events per hour

Welcome! Sounds like you are off to a good start. First thing that would help others respond to your questions is to put your equipment where it shows in each of your posts. Here is a link to help do that. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
And this link may help you pick the right machine. https://sleep.tnet.com/cmd

As for as the sore nose with pillows or any mask that is touching new areas, it takes a while for your skin to adjust. You can go to the baby section in the store and look for Lansinoh cream. It is used by breast feeding mothers. Just apply a tiny bit and the soreness will eventually go away. I think I quit using after about a week.

Thanks for your input OkyDoky! I followed your recommendation and put my equipment in the list. Thanks for the link/walk through!

The "nose pain" is minimal right now and I didn't notice it til I woke up. If for some reason it worsens over time, I will follow your recommendation!

So far, I'm optimistic about the outcome. This was my first night on the machine and I slept the same or better then normal. It can only get better from here!

Thanks!
