Short hose for Dreamwear mask

Post by LARS929 » Sun Nov 01, 2015 10:11 am

I ordered the Dreamwear mask, which arrived on Thursday, but it didn't fit right onto my short hose. I jimmy-rigged it to work, which it did for 2 nights, but last night it didn't hold together air-tight. The short hose I tried was one I used with the Swift LT. If possible, somewhere with affordable quick shipping would be great.

The featherweight tube from Circadiance has standard ends, and can be used with nearly every mask.

Thanks! Not ideal shipping time, but I guess I'll go for it.

Get them on the phone or chat and ask for free shipping, ya never know.
Tell them you're new, and the frog sent you.
Edit, oops you're not new at all, just young!

I posted a solution for this yesterday in the topic Dream Wear Mask - My opinion. Most of the small hoses won't connect to the Dream Wear connection without an adapter.

I thought the Dreamwear came with a short hose included when you ordered the whole package -- medium size mask with s, m and l size pillows??

No hose at all in the package.
It has the connection to the long hose at the top of the headgear.

I thought over in the big DreamWear review thread someone had the Circadiance Featherweight short hose and was going to try it but I don't remember seeing the results if someone did.
I thought about ordering the Featherweight hose but still on the fence about it.
While I like the DreamWear mask well enough and I have decided to keep it just in case I can't use nasal pillows for some reason, I really didn't want to put any more money in it at this time.
But the more I use it the better I seem to like it so maybe I will think a little more about a short hose.

I have only had the long hose come loose at the connection on top of my head once...and I am about 2 1/2 weeks into using the DreamWear. I do have to make sure it is as snug as it can be at that hose to mask connection. It could stand to be just a little snugger.

Thanks Pugsy. I am waiting for the Dreamwear mask which is why I asked the question. However, still a bit confused. I think you are saying that the DW can be used with or without the short hose?? I would think that if the short hose was essential that it would have been included -- like with other masks. I've been reading the threads about this mask but maybe I missed something.

What about this? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/24-inc ... -ends.html It looks like CPAP.com makes them in both 18 and 24 inches. You would need a connector to connect both hoses together. They are 22mm so I don't know if it would make a difference on pressures if connected to 15mm tubing. I don't think much if any. It's looks like regular tubing and not the light weight flexible one. Since it looks like they make this one maybe they could make a 15mm flexible one?

Yes, it can be used without a short hose and that's how I have been using it since I got it.
Those of us who are used to short hoses though (typically most of the nasal pillow masks come with a short hose) are kinda spoiled by the short hose and the flexibility it offers.
A lot depends on how the long hose is routed though...my using routing with the nasal pillow mask was lay on the bed an route up around the bed pillow and then down to my face. With the DreamWear there was no need to alter that routing at all. So I really didn't miss the short hose all that much.
Now someone who routes things differently and maybe use a lot more of the 6 ft hose than I use (my machine is level with my bed and all but touches the mattress) may need just a little more length or flexibility.

Anyone wondering about hose diameter of a short hose...don't worry...18 to 24 inches difference isn't going to really hurt anything.

If I was going to try a short hose I would probably want to try the Circadiance featherweight though...it is lighter and more flexible than the generic hoses in 22 mm diameter....though they could be used but I prefer lighter and more flexible. Even with a non heated hose and using regular 22 mm 6 ft hose I always got the White Performance hose from Respironics because it was lighter and more flexible.

My only question on the Circadiance was in the picture one end looked different and I didn't see where it stated it had universal ends. ChunkyFrog have you used this hose and was it universal?

I have also wondered about those ends but I think one will go over and one will go inside and I think it would work.
I can't guarantee it but people use that hose with other masks so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If it works that way it would be better because it sounds like you wouldn't need a connector.

You do need a connector. Here's my solution:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wgjjzktke7bsy ... 1.jpg?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/o0tsj6p8ed5yy ... 2.jpg?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/t09srqil5jsl6 ... 3.jpg?dl=0

The hose is from a Nuance, which is very flexible and stretchy and just the right length to fit to the top of my headboard.

The adapter is from a Breeze Sleepwear nasal pillow mask. Breeze currently lists Part Number Y-101976-00 for their hose and coupler. You'll just need the coupler - the hose won't fit and it's too short and stiff for the Dream Wear. I'm assuming that the part number matches the one from my old Breeze masks. (Never throw away old parts!) It all fits together securely and without leaks and without any irreversable modifications. I've just ordered some 7/8" heat-shrink tubing to further insure no leakage, but it doesn't seem absolutely necessary or, if you're not as anal as I, use some electrical tape.
