dented face with mask
dented face with mask
I've been using cpap for almost 3 months. Tried 5-6 masks out the first month. Now I'm stuck with this one & I have permanent dent marks on my face from the Mask. I got Padacheek mask liner & face strap pads but it does not help.
Is there anywhere I can look at on cpaptalks for mask reviews (without going through 1000's of messages). I may need to switch. Best place to buy a mask??
Thank you for any information!

They have return insurance so you can try out masks and see if they work. They have reviews.

Re: dented face with mask
Check out cpap.com (they host this forum) for masks offered as well as reviews so you don't have to sort through a bunch of threads.

A good number of masks come with either free return insurance or purchase for a small fee....so you can get your money back if you hate the mask.
What mask are you using now and what masks have you tried in the past?
No mask should leave permanent indentations on the face...if it does then it's either not sized correctly or not fitted correctly and most often they are too tight.
I might get a small "dent" from a strap if I happen to lay a long time on the strap but it goes away quickly in the AM. I get "dents" fairly easy though....even a wrinkle in the pillowcase will leave a little mark for a short while.

News Flash....If the mask is "denting" your face...it's too tight. Masks are not designed to be worn tight. Review the fitting instructions for your mask.....By the way...what mask are you using?texasmom wrote:I've been using cpap for almost 3 months. Tried 5-6 masks out the first month. Re: dented face with mask
I have the F&P Simplus mask now. I've wondered if I need a bigger size, I sometimes wake up & my mouth is half out of the mask!
I debated about using the Amara View but I kept being afraid the nose opening was shifting & not on my nose good enough. But that might be attributed to all this being so new. Or maybe it needed to be a bigger size?
I remember using the Wisp mask but don't remember any other names.
I'd wanted to using nose only, but was afraid my mouth would open.
Love all of your help. I will follow-up on these suggestions.

I use the same mask. I keep the straps as loose as I can, and still get a good seal. My mask tends to rise up on my face at night, so I run two pieces of tape from the mask to under my chin. This keeps the mask down where I want it.

Re: dented face with mask
I always have indentations on my face from the mask straps, particularly on my left cheek as I sleep on my left side. I'm currently using the AirFit™ P10 For Her Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask with Headgear, and there doesn't seem to be a way to loosen the straps (supposedly you can separate the two back straps, but this doesn't make much difference). Any suggestions appreciated!!

I use that mask. You dont want it too tight. You should feel the rubbery seal "inflate" when the air comes on. It needs to be cushiony. Also, try fitting it while laying in your sleep position(s). I'm a side sleeper so I put it on and set it up while sitting, then laid down and it leaked. I also tightened it down too much in the beginning and it leaked and made those indentions worse. So I just kept tweaking with it until it worked. You want it to be as loose as possible yet still keeping a seal. Took me several iterations until I got it just right. I have it dialed in now and it's very comfortable.
It does give me the dents along my cheeks where the sides sit, particularly on my left side which I sleep on. They tend to go away in an hour or so.

That sounds like a good idea! The straps always ride up on my face, too - sometimes even over my eyes.popcpoo wrote:I use the same mask.
