Has anybody got 100% relief using CPAP

Post by Rajeev18 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 1:57 am

I have been using CPAP for almost 1.5 Months to treat an AHI of 19. My Average AHI is 0.9 for this period on CPAP. I can say I am better by 20% only. I know this is a short period to ask for 100% relief but just to have an opinion if anybody had 100% relief & can say that he is as fresh he used to be when this Apnea was not there. Also what time it took to get this 100% freshness back. I am really tired of this problem. Tried almost every suggestion in this forum. Just waiting for time when I can say I am back again. Would appreciate feedback.

Under the announcements read the section: Newbie would like to hear success stories, please.
I believe there are many people on the forum who feel they have 100% relief. Of course everyone has different time tables some people seem to find relief right away others take months. I am not there yet but that is my fault I am not always compliant so only have myself to blame.
I would say keep hanging in there and keep listening to the advice of those on this forum who have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
20% improvement is nothing to sneeze at.

Apnea is only one problem. You gave a good AHI--congrats--but are you sleeping enough? How's your bloodwork? Your BP? Do you exercise? How is your emotional state? Depression can cause fatigue and lethargy too.

Thanks for encouraging. Hope it doesn't get too late waiting for relief. I am already on the verge of resigning from my Job. I am just sticking to it hoping relief is nearby. Life at personal front is also the same.

I do regular exercise. I am diabetic & had BP too but controlled all these thru exercise. I don't have depression but I am bit worried about my condition. One year back even I was not aware that there is a term called Sleep apnea.

Many people start cpap with doctors and DMEs who do not care or know enough about the machine settings to make them ideal for YOU.

If you post your equipment and settings, we can help you fix mask fitting issues, find the ideal pressure settings for you, adjust comfort settings, etc. If your machine has data, we can teach you to monitor your treatment.

What method did you use to determine you have a 20% improvement?

How will you know when you have achieved a 100% improvement?

Dramatic and complete relief immediately. AHI > 50 ----> AHI 0.1 . Love the mask, tubing, machine, and benefits. Good sleep, reduction in cancer, heart attacks, strokes, etc.

After several months of small adjustments can say, I' m back 90%-100%. My untreated AHI was 64, now average is 0.5 - 1. My headaches and gout flares have gone.

I would say that by the experience. I still remember 2 year back I used to work 36 hours non stop & yet manage to drive back home at 200KMPH. All that is gone. Can't even work for a regular stretch of 8 hours. Driving 1t 40KMPH seems to be a daunting task. I am driving just because of my past experience. Life is like a hell now. God Knows when this relief will come.

I am using S9 Auto with P10 Nasal mask. Doctor has made the auto setting of 4 to 20 with EPR at 3 & ramp off.
I have experimented with 5 to 20, 6 to 20, 7 to 20.

My Average AHI initially was 0.4 which is almost 1 Now with 0.6 AI & 0.4 Central AI. Average pressure is at 9. From the sleepy head software all I can see is the graphs showing timing of the events at various intervals.

I don't understand if machine is on the n why doesn't it takes care of those events. I understand it must be taking care of the other events than this but why these events are not taken care automatically. Don't know WHY I WAKE UP FOR FEW SECONDS & results are fatigue for whole next day. Doctors don't have any clue what's wrong.

I am in my first months of therapy and really my first weeks with my Nuance P10 nose pillow. I have started getting AHI below 1 and only one or two AHI events per night. I am seeing a rise in my daily energy, no sleepiness during the day and I almost sleep through the night. Depression events are going away and my mental alertness is rising.

I spent the first few weeks messing around with a FFM and fighting the nose itch etc. That was very frustrating. Now I am excited to have the nose pillow and it is working well.

Keep working on it. Keep working till you find a mask / machine settings that work for you. Post your Sleepyhead information here and let the experts here tell you what they think. This is a great forum to be part of with lots of information and encouragement.

You WILL feel better. You will not notice an IMMEDIATE rise but a gradual overall increase of well being and energy. Be patient. This is not an overnight cure.

I have slept in a separate bedroom from my wife for almost a year due to snoring. Guess who suggested I move the equipment and get back in bed? That is VERY encouraging.

Good luck and be part of this community and seek help and encouragement here. It does help and they WILL HELP!

Thank you so much for the support. I am already feeling little better than earlier & hope this will continue. I have adjusted to the P10 nasal pillow mask. Thank you for your advise once again.

Keep in mind that an AHI of 1 means that you're only waking up once an hour. For me, I don't really wake up when I have an apnea, at least I don't remember waking up. I must get close to waking up, since that's the way that it works, but no memory of waking up. An AHI of <5 is considered "normal", which is 5 wake-ups per hour. So you're really doing well, you're well below what medicine considers "normal".

As others have said, it is really an individual thing as to how quickly you recoup and feel better...and there may be other issues as well that are affecting how rested and well that you feel. If you're not happy with your progress, you can have a discussion with your sleep doctor and look into whether there are other things going on, or if you're going as fast as you can *smile*.

For me, I never felt really bad, never had problems focusing or with headaches, daytime sleepiness, etc. before therapy, so I guess I feel about the same as I always have *smile*. Pretty level most of the time. Stress affects me the most, not a lot of that at the moment.

I am better than I ever remember feeling.
Perhaps I'm that much better,
or my memory is shot.
