New CPAPer

37 years old, female. MD says I need to lose at least 70 lbs and maybe I can get off the CPAP. I weigh 214 at 5'4". I look chubby, not obese (carry weight in stomach area). I guess I noticed I started to snore as I gained more weight, but not exactly sure if I didn't snore before that. My siblings all snore. Anyway, my triglycerides are 519, on Lipitor. Wondering what experiences people have had with weight loss and being successful in going off of the CPAP.

Also a hard core stomach sleeper, trying to find a mask that will work so I don't have to give up my sleeping position. Any stomach sleepers out there have any suggestions?????

Hhunt,

If you have sleep apnea, losing weight will alter the amount of pressure that you require (possibly), but shouldn't change the need for CPAP. You may be able to "get away with it", but if you have sleep apnea you open are liable to incur damage to your body.

I don't sleep on my stomach, so I can't help you there, but there are a couple of posts on the topic in this forum.

Take care.
