No supplies please help!

Post by jarablue » Sun Sep 20, 2015 9:23 am

Do I have to see a dr to buy cpap equipment? I am in desperate need of filters, tubing and a mask. Where can I go to get them? I just want to give my health insurance and buy them plain and simple. What is the easiest way to do this?

Thanks

Please clarify...are you wanting a place to get supplies that is online that will accept your insurance in lieu of payment?
Or are you just wanting a place to get supplies and pay out of pocket and not involve insurance?

I just purchased mask parts and filters at CPAP.com without a prescription. Not a whole mask, though. You need a scrip for that. There are usually enough individual parts available to make up the mask. Depends on what you want. They do not take insurance though. You have to pay and they will give you the paperwork to get reimbursed from your insurance.
Some insurance companies do not pay for out-of-network services. So you would have to check with them first. Hope it works out for you.

You should call your health insurance company to find out what they require. Most insurance companies will want a prescription that's less than a year old and a statement of medical necessity, which will require a doctor's visit. It may be possible to get a prescription that's good for long-term or lifetime use, but it will probably be only valid for self-pay after a year goes by. One of cpap.com's competitors offers a prescription after an online consultation for $99, but it is only valid for self-pay.

Another option is to use HSA or FSA funds to purchase supplies. You can use your HSA or FSA at cpap.com.

If your insurance policy has a high deductible or high co-pay, you may be able to do better on cost by using self-pay and looking for discounts. If you have good coverage, this may be more trouble than it's worth.

Nope!

Do you already have a/the prescription from when you got your equipment? If not, you should have.
But, you only need it for a COMPLETE mask or a machine. Your mask is available in "kit" form which requires no Rx.
