cheap "sleep monitoring" devices

Post by ecg15 » Fri Sep 18, 2015 11:39 am

I found these for $11

[the link to ebay is apparently not allowed here, search ebay for "sleep monitor" bracelet smart wrist watch pedometer]

multifunction, among them:

" Intelligent sleeping monitoring, improving the sleeping quality "

I assume it's just by detecting and storing movements of the arm that wears the device at night.

I ordered it, but it takes a while to arrive from China.

Someone uses them ?

Most of us don't use cheap crap, to play with our health. We also don't need links to it, we have the internet. Jim

One of my coworkers just bought an applewatch knockoff that arrived from China yesterday. The amazon page for it was mostly 1-star reviews, with a few 2-stars, and LOTS of people saying that they got their money back. But it was only $39, and seemed like it would provide a working wristwatch, which he figured was worth $39.

It may be better than it appears, though. The instructions are all of 6 sentences of fractured English, and the device itself has many screens. If he can figure out how to work it, then it might turn out to be a great value.

Most fitness trackers contain an accelerometer that keeps track of how many steps you take (i.e. a pedometer). That same sensor can also keep track of how much you move while you are sleeping. You can buy inexpensive fitness trackers from reputable companies, such as Jawbone (https://jawbone.com/store/buy/upmove) for about $50-$60. Personally, I like the Jawbone software.

this is NOT criticism just an honest question
BUT
why in the world would you "BUY" something that does what your phone can do for free

2 sleep trackers plus other functions for Android

iPohnes has similar apps but i don't use an iPhone so cant rate them

1) sleep as a droid
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... leep&hl=en

cool app i used to use, as with number 2

2) SleepBot - Sleep Cycle Alarm
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... pbot&hl=en

both gave interesting data but in the end the data served no true purpose
the only saving grace may be in the fact they supposedly can wake u at some optimal time
during your sleep cycle.
never used that aspect of the programs so cant really say if it works well or not

also you can use your phone for calories burned per day
or per workout
steps taken (pedometer)
calories in what you are eating
and a whole host of other things
people sell gadgets for

it's sometimes FUN to have a gadget
BUT
i don't like to buy stuff just to have it duplicate a feature my phone can do
for free

you can upload the data to PC via USB.
The idea is to synchronize it with the ECG-data so to figure out which of the ECG-irregularities
are probably due to movement and which are real. Or how the heart-rate goes on awakening.
You could also make statistics, how you sleep, when you're awake and compare it with others.

Just in theory, I'm not sure whether it really works in practice
