If you had a choice...Airsense 10 Autoset or S9 Autoset
If you had a choice...Airsense 10 Autoset or S9 Autoset
I just talked to my insurance company to see if I am eligible to replace my S9 Autoset, yes was her answer, I pay my deduct and they pay 90%. Do I have to go with another S9 or can I ask for the new Airsense 10 Autoset. Also do I have to go through Apria, which is who insurance said to use or can I buy from our sponser, (better price)??
Just wondering if its worth getting the Airsense 10 Autoset or the S9 Autoset or is there a big difference...which would you get if there is a choice????

Re: If you had a choice...
I had my choice of Phillips or ResMed for a new machine, I chose ResMed and I picked the S9 auto over the new 10 Air model because I've read about various problems they're having. The older models have a good track record established, I'll pick that every time.

You would need to check directly with your insurance company to find out if they would reimburse you for a machine that you bought from cpap.com. Cpap.com will give you a universal insurance form with diagnosis and HCPCS codes but your insurance will likely consider them "out of network" and it depends on your policy how "out of network" RX purchases are paid/reimbursed. Some plans won't cover out of network expenses at all. Some will cover out of network at a reduced rate. You need to check with your insurance first hand to know for sure how they would handle that universal claim form.
As to what to get...I am always up for latest and greatest and I would go for the new AirSense 10 and I would go for the "for Her" model even if I was a guy just because of the additional apap mode that is available on that model. Never know when that might come in handy. It still has the apap mode like your S9 and cpap mode but it has a second apap mode choice. I think that additional mode also flags RERAs (how important that might be is sort of unknown but again...might be useful) that according to the manual the other modes don't.
Also it looks like from what I read that the humidity adjustment thing on the AirSense offers more combinations or customization choices if that is important to you.
Seems like a few people using the S9 who got the new AirSense say that it is even more quiet if that's possible as I think the S9 is almost silent (or at least the one that I have is).
If you are currently using the ClimateLine hose...any stock pile of spares won't work on the new AirSense but you could probably find good homes for them here on the forum.
The AirSense 10 model line has been out for a year now...any bugs should long ago been fixed.
I vote for the "latest and greatest" no matter who you get it from.

Kinda what I was thinkin Pugsy, its ashamed the insurance company would rather pay more by making me get from Apria than say an out of network place. Thanks for the info, my deduct will be met next week, might just see what I can do towards a new machine...Pugsy wrote:You would need to check directly with your insurance company to find out if they would reimburse you for a machine that you bought from cpap.com. I agree with Pugsy. I would go with the latest and greatest. Most of the cpap units have 2 year warranties so if anything did go wrong you could exchange or get fixed. I have not heard too many complaints with the new Resmed machines. Patients (and doctors) seem pretty pleased with them.

I used my S9 for several years, but I am even more pleased with my new Airsense 10 for Her.
Latest and greatest. Never looking back.

One small vote for an S9 as you may find it cheaper to buy your own spare back up machine. I have two and they're great. Took one around the world with me.

Re: If you had a choice...Airsense 10 Autoset or S9 Autoset
Another vote for S9. I have all the spare parts already, my treated AHI average is less than 1. Don't need to invest in all the spares, and it's meeting my medical needs. It also would give me the exact same travel backup unit. Absolutely nothing against the S10. If I had that then I'd be staying with it as well.

I'd go for the A10. The new model teething pains are probably done with by now. Presumably, you'll be using the machine for many years, and parts for the A10 will probably be available for longer. However, the S9 not that bad a choice. There aren't really major improvements in the A10 model.
