Questin for a few resmed P10 airfit mask users.

Post by Bobby269 » Fri Aug 07, 2015 1:27 pm

Would a few people whose mask is new measure the length of their headgear and let me know how long it is.
I just started with a brand new mask and had high leaks for 3 days.I check the headgear length and it was 1 1/2" longer than headgear that I had used for over 4 months. I also had this problem one time with headgear from a sealed package. It was from a reliable company.
The DME was nicer than most they replaced it with a new one.
Thank you in advance to anyone that takes the time to give me their headgear length measurements.
Is the for her P10 headgear a different size then the other.

THE NEW MASK WAS NO BETTER>

Gosh, I wish mine was longer! I'm going to cut mine tonight and add something to it. I really like the P10 but it is just too tight. I'll getting the Wisp in future.

Yes, the For her version is shorter to account for smaller heads. It is a different color to prevent confusion over headgear sizes.

If you are getting leaks, adjust the band's according to the book. If it's sliding because it is loose, you need the For Her or simply have to adapt it to fit.

Thank you. I have been wearing this type of mask since it come out. In the begining it was tight. But it did the job.
My old headgear that has been used for 3 to 4 months are 18 1/2" long. My two new masks headgears are 20" long.I can find no way to eliminate the leaks. Cpap.com says that their website lists them as 19 1/2" long. They swear that the men's and the women's headgear are the same length.
It appears that ResMed changed something and didn't tell anyone. So much for customer loyality.
I wanted to know what sizes others are receiving.

Very Interesting.

I ordered a second head strap (Women's) so that I would have Two Different Colors. I've used both, Washed Both.

Pink (womens) measured 18 1/2 inches while the Blue (mens) measured about 19 7/8 inches.

Both Work Fine but now I know why I need to spread the pink wider when I use it.

Thanks
Dennis

I have my Airfit P10 since January and it was quite tight in the first weeks.

Now after 7 months the double-strap have become worn out and weak (one strap of the double strap more than the other - obviously depending on the size and form of my head...). The straps do no longer keep the nose pillow properly on the nose so leakage accurs quite often.

I do not know how long the strap was when new, but now it is 22 inches long (blue strap taken off the mask, end to end); measuring the more-worn-out strap it is even longer.

So my P10 is not to narrow but too long. Wish I could make it shorter and stronger again. I have to buy a new ribbon.

Resmed (Germany) says that's the way it is... And added a recommendation to change the ribbons every year anyway.

I do not yet have my airfit p10, but I have read that washing the straps in hot water causes them to shrink somewhat. Have you tried that?

I washed all three of my headgears, and lined them up once dry.
The blue one is about a half inch longer than the pink ones.
I find they need to be washed at least every three weeks, because of stretching.
YMMV (your mileage may vary), depending on a number of things.

I called ResMed they were able to help a little. The ladies should be 18 1/2". The men's should 19 1/2". The women said that there are Companies selling counterfeit equipment. She is going to send me a list of Companies that sell real ResMed equipment. The Company that I deal with here in San Antonio doesn't appear to be getting their supplies from them.
She had no record of the size of the headgear changing as in being made larger or smaller.

Yes I have after I heard that hot water could help, but with little to no success. Obviously it is too late in my case, perhaps it works if you do not wait until the strap has really stretched out. - Thanks for your confirmation !

You can buy a new headgear strap on eBay for about $20:

Wash mine once a week in warm water with soap, air dry, no problems for past three months

I ordered the for her headgear which is shorter. Hopefully it will solve my problem.

I had the opposite problem. I started with the P10 "for her" but it was too tight. It did stretch out a little after about a week, but not enough. I ended up buying the replacement straps in the regular size, and they fit perfectly. The replacement straps weren't covered by insurance. They were around $25, not exactly cheap, but not super expensive.

To get the most accurate measurements, I actually called my local CPAP supplier before ordering the straps. They had replacement straps in stock for each size, so they measured them and called me back with the numbers (I wrote the numbers down, but of course I can't find them right now). If there's a local CPAP supplier near you, maybe you could try calling them or going there yourself to measure Several of them. If they're all different lengths, that might suggest a manufacturing problem with quality control.

That's interesting what you said about "counterfeit" products claiming to be from ResMed. On the one hand, I'm pretty surprised. On the other hand, I'm not at all surprised.

BTW, I had e-mailed ResMed customer support a while ago, and they said the straps for the regular and "for her" versions are the same length. That's totally incorrect! At least based on my measurements and those measurements from my local CPAP supplier. Besides, all of their other "for her" products are designed to be slightly smaller. It wouldn't make much sense if the only difference between the two versions for the P10 were the pink color. I'm not sure why they're telling people that...

It sounds like the ResMed rep you spoke with had much better information than the one I e-mailed. Maybe the email team just has the wrong information. Or maybe the phone support team is just better at their jobs?
