Autopap
Autopap
I will be getting my new autopap this week and I see everyone posting from software that comes from the equipment. Will I have that softwear with the Resmed S8 Auto Set ? Will it come with directions? What will the softwear tell me. Will the softwear work with my new Hybrid next month? Will the tech know how to set the equipment for me?
Do I have to learn a computer like program and is it difficult? I am a little worried it will all be over my head. You all sound so sophisticated that I am a little intimidated by it all.

Oh but Booty is always so pleasant.....Booty must be the Spelling police.
Obviously not someone you would ever ask for dinner....
Issac --
The S8 Vantage does not come with AutoScan software. It does, however, provide you with basic compliance information such as your average pressure, AHI, HI, AI, and leak rate for the previous night, week, month, and year. Those numbers are fairly straight-foward. Nothing to be intimidated by. And, as always, we're always happy to help explain what you see.
Of course, your DME will probably tell you (as mine did), that you will just be very confused by all of those things. So as a result, don't ever hold down the left and right keys on the machine. That takes you directly to the efficacy data stored on the machine, and those are the numbers that we all find so darn confusing. Even worse, don't hold down the right and down keys on the machine. That takes you to the Clinician's Menu. We've been led to believe that a mere patient accessing that area might actually ccause the nuclear hotline to ring at the White House.

Is it possible to ignore the softwear, software, softwatever... and use the autopap without knowing anything about it? I just want to breath, not become a sleeptech.

Yes, Issac -- You never need to know they are there if you don't want to know. They won't appear unless you press the right buttons.
But if you don't find that you're feeling improvement, you may want to have a look at the numbers and ask for help here. The numbers can help you figure out what's happening to you.

I saw where mikemoran did not know if he had his Hybrid set correctly on the proper setting. I just want to pop my mask on and turn on the machine and not worry about it. I went on the computer for the first time last year. I know absolutely nothing about settings and apnead and hiphopneas or the rest of it. I was not even given a copy of my study. I only know my pressur because my tech said I was too high for my CPAP at 20 and I needed an autopap that would only go that high if I absolutely needed it. I don't want to get equipment over my head.
That's another thing. When you talk about putting equipment over your heads, what are you talking about?

I know... Perhaps we should ask the admins to ban him (and his IP) from the forum. Or maybe we can ignore it and it will retreat back into its cave. But if Booty is hard up enough for friends and entertainment to come here to pull that c**p, then... well.... whatever. It's amusing in the same way that watching people make fools of themselves in the American Idol auditions is amusing.Everyone of Booty's posts are cruel. If you do a search you'll see that it is unlikely this person has a sleep disorder. Everyone is so bent on haveing people register, but trolls register, too.

The S8 Vantage has a special setting that takes into account how much airflow your mask is designed to put out. (All masks do this). You (or your DME) needs to set the machine to tell it which mask you are using. It's a very, very simple thing to do. Ask your DME if your machine was set for your mask. If not, we can help you with that when you get it. It's really a very simple machine if you want it to be. But that mask setting is important.Issac wrote:I saw where mikemoran did not know if he had his Hybrid set correctly on the proper setting. When we talk about putting the equipment up over our heads, we are referring to the hose. Many of us find that it's more comfortable to have the hose attached to the wall or the headboard so that we are free to move and change position during the night. There are lots of ways to do that. I now have a cup hook in my wall with a ponytail holder around my hose so that I can hang the hose on the wall. Does that make sense? If not, I'll take a picture of it for you. Other people have come up with other ways to hang the hose.

Isaac,
Mike's is a Resmed machine. Resmed - who are raising their prices, and won't let internet companies sell internationally - also want you to enter the kind of mask you use - and - surprise surprise surprise - a Resmed machine will only let you type in a Resmed mask.
And of course you wont' find an official mask equivalence table.
The machine will work with your new Hybrid mask - but you'll have to find out, maybe with the help of someone on this board, what kind of mask the machine should be told you are using.
As for the software - it has to be bought, and then installed on your computer. Good software let's you follow your treatment and make better, informed decisions about it. You can have your therapy without it.
Should you decide to but the software, you will have to learn where to click in order to get the info you want. You'll have friends here to help you install the software into your own computer - should you run into problems.

ResMed auto
Hi
I have only been using cpap for 12days .
I have hired a ResMed S8 AutoSet Spirit with HumidAire 3i and Mirage Swift nasal pillows and thanks to the good people on this forum. I now know how to get into the menu and read the data. I have also learnt a lot about apnea and cpap from this forum.
I have a question, in about 2 weeks I will have to decide if I am to buy this machine or something else ,as its the only one I have ever used what do others think.
Is this S8 autoSet the same as a S8 vantage
I was told that the S8 AutoSet Spirit is the latest and greatest from ResMed
Thanks for any opinions
Jacko
I know Im not very good at spelling ,so I hope I don't have Booty after me...

Isaac,
As Jim mentioned, APAP's only go up to 20 just as CPAP's. Since that is what you were titrated at, I would be concerned if I were you. Please talk to your doctor about the possibility of getting a BiPAP or an Auto BiPAP since your pressure is so high.
Please feel free to ask any questions you need to. I know it can seem pretty daunting at first, but the more you get involved in your treatment the better you'll be. You can get as involved as you like, so if you don't want to monitor it using the software then that's fine. It's important to keep up on how you feel though...so if something isn't working then you need to find out what your options are and then proceed from there. Believe me, once you get the right setup it's wonderful. It took me going from a pressure of 14 to 16 and then to finally 14 - 17; from CPAP to APAP; and then I went through 5 masks before finding the right one.
We're here to help if we can. Don't let one person being a critic about your spelling keep you from posting. None of us are perfect.
