Sleeping Position

Post by BleepingBeauty » Wed Jun 17, 2015 6:00 pm

I know, I know, YMMV, and I don't know if this is true or not (opinions on these things seem to change all the time). But this makes me feel even better about sleeping on my back.

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

I KNOW sleeping on my back is bad, and sleeping on my side is better.... but for me, it's too much of nuthin'.

Hey, even if one has OSA, if their machine is handling the events, why not sleep how one likes, right? I think most of us instinctually tend to accomodate our physical issues by picking the sleep position that works best for us. I used to fear back sleeping but I've relaxed about that. My data shows my machine is handling my events even when I back sleep. Can I blame the years of side sleeping for my winkles and sags?

After my breast surgery, I had to sleep on my back only for close to a month.
Finally sleeping on my side again is so nice!
Bret's new pillow helps, too--A LOT!

I have slept on my back for years --even before cpap. I have been on cpap for 13+ years now. I have excellent reports and feel well rested (except for Rheumatoid Arthritis fatigue). My AHI is often 0.00 and almost always, below 1. I did my sleep studies on my back too. I should say that I use an Autopap set at a very narrow range. Couldn't work better for me.
That is NOT the case for everyone but, because of Rheumatoid Arthritis pain, I have slept on my back for a quarter of a century.
I am aware that some do not do well sleeping on their backs, but for me, it is the only way to go!

I liked the list of articles under the one about sleeping positions. Can't argue with science...

I have migrated from slide sleeper to full stomach sleeper, with pillows propping up by shoulders and head. After years of shoulder pain and surgery, sleeping on my side hurts way too much. I have tried sleeping on my back and my body will just shut down and go to sleep that way.

I got in a terrible habit of sleeping on my stomach and my back suffers for it. Otherwise, it's the tossing and turning that usually results in pain rather than any particular position. At least I can't get blood clots from laying in one position overlong. Just started a new regimen for Restless Leg Syndrome so hopefully that will be resolved.
