Azelastine alergy?

Post by shu246 » Fri Jun 05, 2015 9:03 am

I'm having alergy problem with something at night, and have to take the maks off because of irritation on my face. Recently started using Azelastine HCl (137 mcg per dose) before bed and as needed through the night to keep nose clear. I do seem to develop reactions to any medication after a few uses.

Anyone have problems with Azelastine?

I'm curious about the frequency of use. The usual frequency is once per 12 hours, not as needed.
Any conversations with your doctor on this difference?

My wife has a problem with lots of meds, but the Azelastine has been no problem....she uses it AM and PM.

I imagine the irritation is simply from the mask. Are you cleaning the mask regularly and allowing it to dry before reuse? Do you wash your face well with a non-comedogenic soap before putting the mask on?

Do you have the mask overtightened? Do you move around in bed causing the mask to rub your skin?

The FDA has noted an infrequent reporting of contact dermatitis with Azelastine. But this was also reported with placebo.

Take care.

Thanks folks. Wife says she will back off on the Azelastine and try some Nasonex. Yes, she's well attentive to non-alergenic soaps and things.

I was having a bad time with congestion to the point that I was often unable to use my cpap.

Sleep doctor prescribed Azelastine: 2 sprays in each nostril am and pm. When I picked it up I told the pharmacist it was to help with my cpap and she suggested using it about 30 minutes before bedtime.

After a bit of experimenting I've found that 1 spray in each nostril near bedtime is all I need. And not every night either.

The other thing that helped a lot was to toss my nasal pillow mask.
