I've been struggling with excessive daytime sleepiness my whole life. I did a sleep study 20 years ago, but it said there was no problem. Since then I've been experimenting with numerous drugs, herbs, and allergy diets trying to find relief. I recently read that false negatives from sleep study clinics are not uncommon, so I've decided to take another test.
What should I look out for when choosing a sleep clinic?

Your doctor's referral would be a place to start...

If you have insurance, contact the company and get a list of in network sleep labs. Then do some on line research looking for feedback on those labs. After you rank them get a referral from your doctor.

Sleep centers associated with universities are frequently good choices.
As suggested, home studies are another good choice.
However, a chat with your primary physician would be the best place to start.
You might not have any type of sleep apnea but some other disorder that is preventing you from getting good rest at night or even having a good energy level during the day. Without any symptom description, speculation about other causes would be meaningless.

Definitely make a visit to the facility before you make your appointment! Had I done that, I would have gone to another lab...look for one that is clean, warm, no flies, a bed without cheap plastic mattress/pillow covers that crackle every time you move and staff that makes you feel comfortable and at ease!

Re: How to choose a sleep lab?
My sleep doc gave me a choice of two labs that were in-network for me. I chose the one in the affluent part of town. The facility was like an upscale home rather than a medical facility, the temperature was near-perfect at what felt just below 70ºF, the mattress was nearly new and very comfy (although not a Sleep Number), and the tech was professional, cordial, and attentive. That may not be the case in every area, but it worked for me.
