yet another full face mask question

Post by Grimace » Wed Jun 28, 2006 10:33 am

I've been having some alergy problems, and I'm looking in to getting a full face mask to use when I have a lot of nasal congestion. I have a beard, but I keep it trimmed pretty short. Will a full face mask keep a seal over facial hair? I haven't had any trouble with my nasal masks.

In my experience using the Remstar-auto:
- in APAP mode, NO
- in CPAP mode, YES

It also depends on the particular full-face mask. I used the ResMed Ultra-Mirage FFM and had pretty good seals all around, although the seal around my lower lip was problematic at times. Other masks which cover much more facial hair look to me like they would be more difficult to seal.

[controversial topic ON] In APAP mode, the leaks I had with the FFM mask were large enough that I experienced runaway pressure increases at times with the Remstar-auto. Others have reported similar experiences (which you find by doing a search). [/controversial topic OFF]

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Bill

I think that mikemoran's not having trouble with his new hybrid and he's got a beard.

that lower lip umff problem, for what it's worth, is not just a man-with-beard problem. it's just a umff seal problem, i think (woman wiithout beard here, but yes, lower lip seal problem, enough to cause fluctuating water usage--leaks.)

Full Face Mask

As Booty said in one of posts. Use a plastic Bag instead. They're cheaper than a mask. I just cut a little hole in one end for the hose then stuck the bag over my head. Never slept so well in my life as I have since used the plastic bag.
Oh, I forgot that this is Booty. Just didn't want to log in asshole.
