Suggestions?

Post by NewToBiPap » Thu Mar 12, 2015 12:22 pm

I have been on this machine since December and its been great. But I cant afford $400 a month just to rent it. I have looked around and the cheapest I have found so far is around $1400. Not sure what to do now.

You say you are using the S9 VPAP ST....that's a very special bilevel machine....what mode of operation are you using it in?
If you are using it in regular S mode then getting a regular bilevel machine would be an option but if you are using it in ST mode for a special condition then changing to a regular bilevel machine might not be sufficient treatment for you.

Normally with insurance the monthly rent is capped and eventually you own the machine...have you checked with your insurance to see exactly what the plan is?
What is your plan deductible?

my insurance doesn't cover anything until I meet my deductible for the year of $2600. Then its 80% coverage once I meet.

What mode are you using?
You were given a very special type of bilevel machine....any reason why?
You can buy a regular bilevel pressure machine for a lot less than $2600 but you need to make sure that you are getting a machine that will treat whatever problem you are having.

Also, you need to find out exactly when the rental period is over.

I have to find out which mode I am using. I was told I have central sleep apnea but i'm not sure if that is the only reason I was given this super machine. The rental period is 13 months which is ridiculous. I am thinking about buying a refurbished model off of someone on craigslist.

Okay..if you have central sleep apnea issues then you have to be careful about exactly which bilevel machine you buy because some are special (for centrals) and some bilevels are what I call "plain bilevels" and won't/can't deal with centrals.

Secondwindcpap.com has some of those very special bilevel machines that will deal with centrals.
S9 VPAP Adapt will do it...the Adapt part of the name is very important.
If you are going to buy something out of pocket ...make sure what you are buying will do the job you need done.
If you are unsure about what you are looking at then give us a link and we can try to figure out what machine it is.
Craigslist sellers often don't have a clue what kind of machine they are trying to sell and unless you get the model numbers...it can be hard to figure out.

Well I found someone selling the same exact model I am currently using through craigslist. The cost is so good its hard not to buy it.

My sister bought a machine from craigslist that she assumed was exactly like mine. It wasn't. Be careful

If you are absolutely sure it is the same model and it's a good deal then go for it.
There are good deals to be had on Craigslist...there's also a lot of Craigslist sellers who don't know the difference in models.
Just so you are educated and know for sure what you need and what you are getting.

I purchased the Series M CPAP I use for camping off of Craigslist. It worked so well it was my main machine for a while.

Bring your mask and hose with you. Put the mask on and inhale a few breaths. Check for weird smells... specifically cigarette smoke! Other than that I would have no qualms about purchasing a used machine off Craigslist... especially if it is the EXACT same model number.

I am very cautious when it comes to craigslist because its not regulated like buying something off of ebay.

re blower hour? Do you mean how many hours the machine has on it?
