Feel like throwing it in the pool

Post by Jake1 » Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:24 am

Not a night goes by that I don't start out good, determined to make a go of it, the mask fitting well without leaks; and then two or three hours later it all falls apart: either my face or the mask changes and leaks pop up everywhere and I end in a disaster. I was making so much noise my wife moved to another room so she could sleep. I suppose that this is the "adjustment" period.

You're not alone. Until I discovered all the type of mask options available, my CPAP almost became "Yard Art".

Are you still using a full face mask?
Perhaps a mask liner would help, like Pad a Cheek.

I always where my full face mask a little snug but not tight cause when you go to sleep your face muscles relax and then it's just right.

Have you tried to identify the "problem"?
Is it the mask?
Maybe it's the bed pillow pushing your mask out of alignment. The bed pillow is my suspicion from your description. Your head is sinking to far into it and that is what is causing the leaks.

OR.......if you're using an APAP in a range of pressures, your mask adjustment isn't able to keep the pressures from disrupting the mask and that's why you're leaking.

Please fill out your profile with ALL of your equipment and ALL of your settings.

You could throw it in my pool, but it would just bounce. Polar vortex is very effective against pool disposal.

LOL. I guess it's funny at times. I think it is the muscles in my face relaxing at night so that the mask doesn't fit. That makes sense. I'll tighten it up a little. I'm off now to try a little scuba diving at the edge of the pool with it.

jake,
I had exactly the same thing with the Mirage Quattro, once my jaw relaxed there was no seal.
That mask had too shallow a cushion to make up the difference between my face and the Quattro frame.
Tightening it down enough was not possible--or a good idea!
My next mask was a Philips/Respironics Comfortgel full face (now Comfortgel Blue full face--same fit)
The gel cushion of this mask is soft and deep, allowing for a good seal, even with my relaxed jaw.

This mask is a heavy sucker, but it was heavenly for when I needed a full face mask.
If I'm in the neighborhood, can you please leave the gate unlocked?
