Inferior Replacement Air Cushions for ResMed Mirage Quattro

Post by jeffro2 » Mon Feb 16, 2015 10:17 am

I recently purchased a replacement cushion for my ResMed Mirage Quattro full face mask, and immediately noticed a problem.... The material is quite different and appears to be completely clear and thinner than my original cushion, which was thicker and more of an opaque color. Also, the new cushion seems to be completely smooth, as opposed to my older cushions which had a slight texture to them ("gel" type of material, maybe?). The new cushion leaks like crazy and I'd like to know where I can buy replacement cushions just like the original one that came with my mask. Does anyone else here know anything about this topic?

that's because your old cushion is old, soiled and manky.

the cushions are supposed to be clear, always have been. I've got a 5 year old cushion still sealed in it's factory baggie, and it's clear.

Thanks for the replies.... Maybe I need to replace my headgear / strap? I will order that today. Any tips or additional products that might help me get the best possible seal with this type of mask?

I always had trouble with the mirage quattro until I found out about mask liners. those made it something I could live with.

Thanks! I see them online. I will order some today, along with new head gear and some additional air cushions to have on hand. The first air cushion I had seemed to work better for much longer.... Not sure if that is my imagination, or if something else has changed. I wash it every few days, and often shave just before bed to cut down on oils on my skin. Maybe these mask liners will do the trick. Have you tried any other masks that you could recommend over the Mirage Quattro?

the mirage quattro was the first mask I had, it came used with my first used cpap off craigslist. so I strapped it on and slept like the dead for 8 hours the first night.... only later did I find that they came in various sizes, and I was just lucky that it was the right size.... given that it was the first mask, I kept thinking "well, there's probably better" and I tried the two hybrid masks, and neither of them worked for me. after that, i pretty much gave up looking for something new for quite a while... the MQ worked, so I stuck with it.

I've recently moved over to the new airfit p10, which I do like, even though it took a while for my nose to get used to it.

Hi Jeffro

The same thing just happened to me. I ordered three replacement cushions for my mirage Quattro. All three of them were a lot thinner material. I could not get any of them to not leak, and I could not get comfortable with any of the three. I switched to an Amara with gel cushion, what a difference. Quattro to the garbage. Good luck with your therapy....

Maybe Resmed is making flimsy cushions because they want to discontinue the model.
Dumb idea, considering all the mask styles being made by the competition.

I have noticed they are maybe a bit more flimsy, but I can still get a good fit without leaks. I wash the cushion about every 2 days and clean my face with Witch Hazel, this stuff takes the oils off great..good luck , I love my QM.
