Good Sleep

Post by Jake1 » Tue Feb 10, 2015 11:18 am

If one awakens four or five times in order to adjust the mask, is one able to get a good nights sleep, or does rem sleep come in small doses between discomfiture and slumber?

I think we all adjust the mask at night. I think we obtain a sorta "cpap unconsciousness" where we fiddle with mask, hose, etc... all night without actually waking up. That is why I bought a hose hanger... one less thing to mess with. If you have insomnia, it may deter you from going back to sleep. It gets better as time goes by. Give it a couple of months.

REM doesn't normally come in small doses between frequent awakenings. It needs a bit of a cycle to work through before REM stage sleep happens. Frequent awakenings fiddling with the mask will certainly mess with the needed sleep cycles so that we get all of the needed sleep cycles in appropriate percentages.
Google "sleep stage" and do a bit of reading and looking at the hypnograms that will be available and you will get an idea as to what is needed for the normal progression of sleep stages.
