Used CPAP options

Post by Dirtyhands0321 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 8:17 pm

Hello all, I'm looking into getting a CPAP used since my insurance deductible is so high and my doctor recommended DME will charge me over $350 for mask and set up before ever buying or leasing a machine. So what models are good used? Thanks in advance for your help!

Resmed S9 (get the autos) is good value as lots of folks are upgrading to the A10. I have two and love them.

First, be sure to get the prescriptions in hand you will need for masks from online suppliers. There are lots of lightly used and new machines in craigslist, and a whole lof of overpriced, outdated bricks. Assuming you need CPAP or auto CPAP, your best choices are Philips Respironics System One Pro (450/460) or Auto (550/560), preferably 60 series if you want heated hose options; or Resmed S9 Elite or Autoset, or Airsense 10 Elite or Autoset. Several machines are available on the forum, and are not hard to find. They should be in the first couple pages of threads. GrayGhost4 is selling a new 560 for $350 which would be a pretty good score.

If you can figure out the reason Craigslist sellers stage their CPAP equipment on the floor for photos, let me know. I find it a curiously consistent trend. Perhaps it's a subconscious statement?

I have never noticed that .. and I have never done that ... unless it is to big or heavy to put on a table.

Maybe they're trying to get a plain background without furniture or personal items in behind the machine... it can be hard to do, and sometimes the floor is the best 'blank' place you have.

Estate buyers do that a lot, lay out each of the items they are going to sell off, take pics, move to next item, take pics... then post each of the items with the collection of pics already ready to use. Saves time.

maybe they can't figure how how the zoom works on their cameras?

maybe their tables are too cluttered to find space to lay out the machine?

Blank background. Also, it is easier to be far enough away to get good focus. Many lenses do not focus if you are only a foot or two away. It is easier to put it on the floor and stand there, than put it on a table, and stand on a chair.

I saw one like that on ebay...I think it was climateline...unpackaged, of course, sitting on a hardwood floor.

Thanks I found a nice guy who works for a DME in Atlanta, I'm meeting him tomorrow for a used s9 auto set with new humidifier and hoses for $260, I will power it up to verify hours but he said around 700 hours. He also said that it has a new filter. Anything I should look for? Thanks for your great response and insight!

give it a really good sniff (unless you're a smoker) sniff the inlets and outlets, and just generally around the machine... maybe even take your mask and hose and mask up... don't just turn it on and let it blow, way too much air going through it without a mask to slow the flow and let any internal stink come out. (voice of experience here)

I agree. The first one I bought via Craigslist, I didn't check for smell and had to resell it. The last one, I did. Much better. All you need to do is hook up your mask and take a few breaths. If there is a problem with smell, you will know right away.

Yeah, make sure it's the Autoset and not the Escape Auto.
