Swelling of Eyelids and under the eyes
Swelling of Eyelids and under the eyes
I am having a problem with my eyelids swelling and puffiness under my eyes. I sleep with the Ultra Mirage full face mask. I believe that it is from pressure but I haven't been able to adjust the mask to eliminate this swelling. Has anyone had this problem? I have only used the bi-pap for about three weeks. I am a side sleeper.

cjones, I've experienced puffiness under my eyes some mornings after wearing any full face mask (my favorite is same brand as yours - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF) or even my Activa nasal mask.
Doesn't happen all the time with them, but often enough that I figured it was the mask itself pushing up some under the eye area. It always subsides within a hour or so of my being up and about, so it didn't worry me.
I'm a side sleeper too. I've never had any puffiness after using my Breeze with nasal pillows (the interface I use most nights), but that bit of info doesn't help you, since you are using a FF mask. I can breathe through my nose fine, but I'd have to use a FF mask all the time if I didn't tape my mouth closed - I can use the Breeze and the Activa then without having air leak out my mouth all night.

I started using ComfortGel Petite nasal mask on Dec 27 and started having eyelid swelling and puffiness under eyes right away. Went back to RT--she just said "Hmm. Never seen this before", checked mask and said was right size--was not mask. Went to family dr. who said was mask and to quit wearing for 3 nights. Still swollen after that as well as cranky from interrupted sleep. Went to sleep doc today--he says is mask and not to use for 2 weeks, then to come back and be fitted for pillows. Told him had already ordered Breeze system through cpap. Told me not to use machine for 2 weeks and then come back to be fitted by his RT. Was upset because I didn't order through his office. I told him was cheaper through cpap. He tried telling me his office takes care of insurance paperwork. I told him I was capable of doing that. Today my cheek was also swollen. Starting to bother my eyes. Guess next step after 2 weeks if still swollen is to see opthamologist. In the meantime, I'm dreading the next 2 weeks of waking up gasping for air, desert-dry mouth and throat, etc. Do fine on machine but am getting tired of eyes being just slits!!
