Used cpap for 6 hours ,now down to 2-NUx vomica

Post by djn1 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 5:09 am

Hi

I have been on cpap for 5 months.. In October and November 2014, I was on Prozac and I was using the machine for 5 to 7 hours per night but the AHI reading each morning was between 5 to 7.I felt tired on mornings anyway. On 1 December 2014 , I started using nux vomica 30 c, (stopped Prozac)a homeopathic remedy which helps with digestion and should also improve sleep

for This month, JAnuary 1 to 15 , for some reason, I seem to be removing my mask during sleep, so I end up using the mask for 1 to 2 hours per night, but the AHI is 1 to 3 . I wake up a bit sleepy, but my overall health has improved. ANy suggestions to help me use my cpap longer than 2 hours per night? Thank you.

It sounds like a significant improvement in AHI, with some room for improvement. What are your settings at? Last Fall you had another thread as you were dealing with higher AHI, and you had very low minimum pressures and were using a high EPR setting. It's hard to say where the improvement came from without knowing what you're doing now.

Good that you have stuck with the PAP therapy and made good progress over the past 3 months. Eliminating Prozac is beneficial assuming you are working with your doctor, and the underlying need for that has been addressed.

I have kept my settings the same : Temperature 72 , Humidity 6 (max), Autopap pressure min of 4. EPR - 3 , I think , the highest setting. I have tried increasing the min pressure, but I went back down to 4. My problem now is to keep the mask on for at least 6 hours. I don't know how or when it comes off during the night after 1- 2 hours.

People have suggested using a piece of tape on the sides so you will be aware when you take it off, and put it back on. And I was thinking for myself, as my headgear on the P10 is starting to stretch, that I might use the snap type hair clips to hold the bands in place. You would have to have hair long enough to hold them and I haven't tried it yet, but I thought I toss it out there.

If you're able to look at your data in Sleepyhead, you would see the pressure setting immediately prior to going to large leak, when you removed the mask. I would bet real money, it's near your minimum. I would strongly encourage you to increase the minimum to at least 6. Very few people can get enough air at pressures lower than that, and the natural reaction to a sense of suffocation or breathing difficulty is to remove the offending obstruction, your mask.

Do you have Sleepyhead installed yet? If so, take a look and let us know what you see in the moments before demasking
