Can higher pressures mask leaks?
Can higher pressures mask leaks?
Last night was my second night with my Airfit F10. I managed to sleep pretty well, though I did have my first large leak ever. I also had to remove the mask at one point to that I could reposition it. None of that bothers me too much. I am curious though, because I see a period from about 3:15 to 4:00 where I had a cluster of events. My machine responded by increasing the pressure to the maximum level I allow. That's normal enough, but the curious bit is what happened to my leak rate. It went down to 0 until the pressure decreased. Can higher pressures sometimes mask leaks, or is this a normal phenomenon? Here is a screenshot from Sleepyhead.

Victor - go to your other thread of ? yesterday - you have replies there.
Re: Can higher pressures mask leaks?
I think what he is looking for is about the graph not showing leaks with the higher pressures brought on by the cluster of events, not about controlling leaks. Since he has been having leaks earlier but not at that time, seems he doubts the graph.Julie wrote:Victor - go to your other thread of ? yesterday - you have replies there.
I understand your question, I think, but I don't know an answer for you. I probably would trust the graph but their may be factors that I don't know.

Re: Can higher pressures mask leaks?
no, higher pressures can't hide leaks.VictorC wrote: Can higher pressures sometimes mask leaks, or is this a normal phenomenon?
leaks are an absolute, (at least the top line), measured by the flow sensor in the machine. it can tell exactly how much air is flowing through the hose.
you just happened to get lucky and instead of the higher pressure making the leak worse, either you moved a bit and sealed up the leak, or somehow, the pressure caused the mask to fit better

Re: Can higher pressures mask leaks?
Thanks Palerider. I thought of that, but this was the first time I had seen a leak graph like that. It was also the first time I had experienced a large leak.
@Julie, thanks, I did read the thread from the other day, and I appreciate all the suggestions made. But in this case, I was just wondering if the graph was accurate. I assumed it was, but it seemed odd to me.
