shot of air in the eye

Post by Ransid » Fri Jan 09, 2015 2:52 am

I have been using CPAP for about 5 weeks now and my therapy is going good, I use just a nose mask and my mouth stays shut all night and is quite comfortable but when I lie on my side the pillow tilts my nose mask just a little and I am woken by a small shot a cool air in the eye about 5 or so times a night.
I have tried a CPAP pillow but the one I had wad really uncomfortable to sleep on, do other masks make a difference ? As I was looking at maybe investing in another.

You have to try various ones... no one else can possibly say what will work for you in a given (asleep yet!) moment in your bed, with your facial structure and pillows, etc. etc. There are so many masks out there, and there are also special eye masks (Google Quartz eye shields) that are made specifically for the purpose you talk about.

What you need is a mask liner....go to padacheek.com she has one for most masks.

If you're looking for an alternative, the Resmed Airfit P10 is an amazingly comfortable mask with the best exhaust diffusion I have ever seen. There is no noisy cold stream of air exhausting from this lightweight mask, and it tolerates side-sleeping very easily. Everyone has to find what works for themselves, but a lot of us that can use nasal pillows have found this one is the cat's pajamas.

I agree with LSAT. When I started treatment, I had the same problem. I have sever dry eyes and my N10 was blowing into them. "I was looking into eye masks but after I used a liner I no longer noticed it.
I did eventually go to the P10 which completely solved the problem.

If the other suggestions like mask liners etc don't work you can try these eye goggles. I can't tolerate ANY air leaking into my eyes so these get the job done. They take a few days to get used to but are very soft and comfortable, plus they last a long time.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I put my pillow in portrait, rather than landscape position, and roll it to get a bump for my neck. Seems to keep the gear on for me.
When offered artificial respiration, be sure to ask for the real thing.
