Sneezing almost non-stop
Sneezing almost non-stop
I'm a newbie and wrestling with my CPAP machine in the usual ways and keep thinking I can't make it up the hill, so finding this site has been very helpful. I'm using the pillows mask and find that during the day I have been sneezing constantly. There is an obvious cause and effect relationship between my nose and the machine. Any suggestions on how to handle the sneezing. Will it eventually subside? Thanks
Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
You either need to turn down your humidity setting, or else turn it up. If you live in a very dry area (Ariz/Colo) you may need to turn it higher, but otherwise try lowering it, maybe even all the way, and see what happens.
Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
You probably need more humidity but nasal rinsing and maybe a critic steroid spray may also help. Any major allergy seasons going on near you?

Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
I have the humidity turned up to 5. I'll experiment with it. I have never had a problem of any kind with allergies, so I think it's the machine. Thanks for the response.
Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
So maybe try less humidity? And I meant cortico steroids - damn spellcheck - I use Veramyst
Good luck
Good luck

Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
Your night humidity may be fine, but if your home is heated the rest of the time the air may be too dry and the house may need to be humidified...or frequent nasal sprays applied (saline type).

I turned the humidifier down to 2 and I'm not sneezing this morning though my nose feels like it's getting ready. Thanks again for the tips.

In another thread you indicate that you are unable to wear the mask at night since as soon as you drift asleep your mouth opens and you end up removing the mask. I don't know how many hours per night you are getting therapy, but if the other post is any indication, it's not enough to be concerned about fine-tuning the humidifier. How many hours per day without large leaks are you able to use the machine/mask?Jake1 wrote:I turned the humidifier down to 2 and I'm not sneezing this morning though my nose feels like it's getting ready. Is your hose and mask clean? My wife had this problem, turns out she wasn't diligent about cleaning her gear, after changing the hose and mask the sneezing went away -- overnight so to speak.

Weird thing happened to me. To make the nasal pillows fit better I shaved some of the hair deep in my nose………….big mistake………….this caused a lot of sneezing.
Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
I have had that happen if it helps to know that it happens to others, and you are not alone!

Re: Sneezing almost non-stop
I experienced the same issue for the first seven years of CPAP use. The pressure setting on my machine is 9. I use a humidifier set at level one, because any higher causes too much fluid in the hose. My sneezing issue is nearly resolved with use of brand nasal gel spray and saline rinses. Good luck with the sneezing. Jim
