Buying CPAP from same place a did sleep study

Post by hulaw2007 » Mon Dec 29, 2014 2:38 pm

Is it normal for the sleep center place to also sell you the cpap machine? I don't know exactly how all this is supposed to work. The place I went to for the sleep study said to come in and get a machine, they quoted me the cost, told me what machine it was and told me my out of pocket with insurance for the machine. Just curious on how it all works.

It's possible, sure, but it's definitely not the only option. Most people have a separate durable medical equipment company (known as a DME) that they deal with to get their CPAP machine and supplies, but if your sleep center sells CPAP equipment as well and it's in-network for your insurance, there's no reason you can't go that route. Just remember - it's YOUR choice. You can buy from there, but you're not required to.

I strongly suggest you read this article: http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/what-y ... me-part-i/

In some cases.....like Medicare......it's a conflict of interest. And, if I were you, I'd view it that way, too.
I've seen some people report that it turned out that those kinds of places may not even be on the insurance provider's lists of approved vendors. So, what I'm saying is do your homework!
Get a list of approved vendors from your insurance provider and contact them and see what they have to offer.
We have no idea where you're located or what your options are.
