Resistance Settings
Resistance Settings
What negative effects if any can the use of the resistance settings have on your numbers/therapy? And if there are any negative effects, why?

Re: Resistance Settings
Philips/Respironics machine "Resistance settings"? If you're using a P/R mask, then you can use the setting numbers that they provide for their masks. If you use a mask other than theirs, set (or leave) the setting to "0" (Zero).jnew71 wrote:What negative effects if any can the use of the resistance settings have on your numbers/therapy? Re: Resistance Settings
the resistance settings help compensate slightly for the differences in resistance that given masks introduce into the airflow. the smaller the holes in the mask that you breath through (big hole for a full face, little smaller for a nasal, smaller and smaller for pillows) introduce a bit of resistance to the airflow, and so the machines raise the pressure a tiny bit to compensate, and get a more accurate pressure delivered to your side of the mask.jnew71 wrote:What negative effects if any can the use of the resistance settings have on your numbers/therapy? probably less of an effect than turning on the xflex.

Re: Resistance Settings
I believe it would be more accurate to say that negative (relatively speaking) effects would occur if you were supposed to use Resistance Control, but did not.jnew71 wrote:What negative effects if any can the use of the resistance settings have on your numbers/therapy? Resistance Control improves the pressure profile through Leak Compensation ("IMHO", "Resistance Control" is a misnomer):

Re: Resistance Settings
OTOH, I suppose if one were to unnecessarily add Resistance Control when none was warranted, "negative effects" could be generated, but since that really amounts to "screwing around", I do not feel that to be a "sponge worthy" topic.Sludge wrote:I believe it would be more accurate to say that negative (relatively speaking) effects would occur if you were supposed to use Resistance Control, but did not.

Re: Resistance Settings
resistance control and resmed mask type settings perform basically the same function, yes?Sludge wrote:OTOH, I suppose if one were to unnecessarily add Resistance Control when none was warranted, "negative effects" could be generated, but since that really amounts to "screwing around", I do not feel that to be a "sponge worthy" topic.Sludge wrote:I believe it would be more accurate to say that negative (relatively speaking) effects would occur if you were supposed to use Resistance Control, but did not.

Re: Resistance Settings
I think the ResMed mask settings are used to calculate intentional leak rate so the ResScan report of unintentional leak is accurate:
