Changing Filters
Changing Filters
I have a P 560 and they only gave 6 filters for 6 months. Is this normal or is my air dirty.
Re: Changing Filters
I guess it depends on the air in your home. I have the Resmed S9 and I change my filters about every 4-6 months depending upon how they look. 6 Filters would last me about 2 years.

Re: Changing Filters
I am in a pretty dusty area and just changed out my Hypoallergenic filter for the first time in almost 3 months. It was dirty, but not overly. It is a finer filter than the standard one. My S9 machine came with a whopping 2 of the normal ones from the DME, but I only used one for a short period of time before I replaced it with the hypoallergenic one (bought a set of 6 from our sponsors).
Unlike my previous PR unit which had both a black cleanable filter and a disposable filter, my S9 only has the one filter. I never really used the disposable filter on my PR unit though, just the washable one.

Re: Changing Filters
the recommended replacement rate on the prs1 machines is monthly, their filter is much smaller and less effective than the resmeds.LSAT wrote:I guess it depends on the air in your home. Re: Changing Filters
I replace mine twice a month (on the 15th and the last day of the month). That's just me...

Check it weekly (or so) and replace as needed. I found replacements on amazon. For the "bigger" stuff I use cpap.com.

Re: Changing Filters
Almost any filter becomes more efficient as it is used. While the outside of the filter may appear dirty, that extra layer actually increases filtration and pressure differential. Manufacturer recommended change intervals are not to keep you from breathing dirty air (nice thought), it is to prevent excessive pressure on the air intake that might stress the fan motors (engineering).
Don't worry, have a good night sleep.

Re: Changing Filters
We heat with wood so dust is a problem. I swap out filters monthly and you can see they do get dirty...
...as an aside. The filters seem hardy enough to compress air clean then wash mildly....but I dunno.
I imagine folks with clean electric heat go quite awhile between filter changes.

Re: Changing Filters
Hi,
I've found monthly fine filter changes for my PRS1 machine is about right. I have yet to replace the foam filter after over a year of use. It's washed and rinsed weekly, and looks like it was new.
I wondered if the filters were designed in to protect the machines rather than the patients. After all, we spend at least 2/3 of our lives breathing unfiltered air.
