New User - Question Regarding My Machine?

Post by Rhodes » Fri Dec 05, 2014 10:46 pm

As far as the machine says, I have a Remstar System One with Humidifier. Tonight will be my 7th night on the machine. For the first 4 nights, where it says therapy hours, it appeared totally accurate, but the last 2 nights it's said 2.5ish hours and 3.14ish hours which is obviously incorrect as I have slept the same every night with the exception of making an adjustment to the leaky mask in the middle of the night a few nights ago. Since then I've had this problem. When I go to info & phone - in, my therapy hours and blower hours appear correct as well as all sessions lasting longer than 4 hours so I'm wondering what is going on? I called the sleep place and they weren't at all helpful. I am very new to this and my doctor barely speaks English and I know nothing so any and all help will be very appreciated.

First we need to know which machine you have. There are a dozen system one machines. To find out, you remove the water chamber, then turn the machine over. You will find some numbers on the blower section. They may start with ref and may be 460 550 or 560. Once you have the number fill out your profile equipment section in text mode not picture.
Then come back here and let us know what you have found.
You may also want to read about Sleepyhead software at the top of the forum page and dowload and install it on your computer.
Then you will be armed and ready to start learning about your treatment. There are many folks here who can help you. Most speak English and are more willing and able to help you than the professionals you have been dealing with.

What time are you checking the onscreen data?
What time zone are you in?
The onscreen data doesn't get updated or changed until noon GMT time and if you happen to be checking the LCD screen prior to the update time that might be why the hours appear initially off.

Use the software to see for sure though.
SleepyHead will work with your machine and I have links to it as well as information on how to use it in my signature line.

Thank you for the responses:) I do not know how to fill out a profile. My paperwork says I have:

RSP-DS560/CPAP SYSTEM ONE CPAP W/AFLEX
Respironics

RSP-DS6H/Heated Humidifier System One 60 Series
Respironics

RES-61701/Mask CPAP Mirage Quattro Med FX

Mask doesn't fit without leakage unless I tighten it so much that it hurts terribly with strap on my eyeball. I told them this before I paid the money and they didn't care. Last night I didn't even use it after half an hour of trying to adjust it.

I have checked the status of therapy hours all throughout the day. It doesn't change.

To fill out your profile, click on User Control Panel on the top left of your screen (under the search box) then click the Profile tab.

wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
Above link will show you how to add your equipment to your profile.
You need to choose these in the machine and equipment choices
Machine....this one is what you are using....PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP
Humidifier...this one even if you aren't using the optional heated hose....PR System One 60 Series heated tube humidifier with heated tube

You have a 560 machine...use SleepyHead to see just how bad those leaks are. If they are really bad the machine could be reporting "no breathing detected" and that will affect therapy hours reported on the LCD screen. Any time spent with "no breathing detected" will be subtracted from total use hours.

The Quattro can be a real bitch to tame...and they may not have even given you the correct size which makes it even harder.
Read Janknitz's hints on how to tame the Quattro
http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/taming ... e-quattro/
Did you check to make sure that you were given the correct size?
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html
at the above link is a video for fitting and in the upper right side there is a link to a printable template to verify sizing.

You may need to try a different mask...does your equipment supplier offer mask swapping? Some do and some don't but the mask manufacturers all offer 30 days with their masks...but some DMEs make their own in house rules.

Finally...how come you were given a full face mask? Is it because you simply can't breathe through your nose?
If you can normally breathe through your nose just fine then you might be able to use a different mask which doesn't take up so much real estate on your face and thus is easier to get and keep a good seal.

Eastern time zone...It's possible that you are checking the on screen data prior to GMT noon time. It depends on when you are checking the machine. Figure out what the time is in London when you are looking at the screen and if it is not yet GMT time in England then your machine won't be updated yet.

If you were checking the on screen data well into the morning or afternoon...then something else is causing the therapy hours to be under reported on the screen. Use the software so you can see for sure what is going on.

I had to have a full face mask because I breathe out of my mouth a lot. I hope when I call Monday they will let me exchange this mess.

Yeah...try to swap the mask for a different mask. They aren't all the same and some people do great with the Quattro but others can't get it to work no matter how hard they try. Finding the right mask is the hardest part to this therapy IMHO.
Gotta be comfortable to sleep and gotta have minimal leaks to sleep....and we gotta sleep to have this therapy work.
