using Everest 2 on Delta Airlines?

I'm taking an overnight flight on Delta this month and my recently purchased used Aeomed Everest 2 is not on their approved list to "use" on the flight so they won't authorize me to use it?

I've used it on other airlines without any questions or need to get permission.

Anyone actually used a Everest 2 on Delta? Anyone ever had their use of a cpap questioned by Delta once they started using it on the flight?

Yes, I have seen that listing on the Delta web site also, but if it were up to me I wouldn't worry at all about it. Just take it on board and use it. I can't imagine anyone questioning it. The Stewardesses and Stewards don't know one machine brand from another and most likely would not say a word. The worst I could imagine is that you would not be able to use it that one night. I recently traveled on Delta to the middle east and back and used my Respironics on a battery with no one blinking an eye about the machine much less asking what brand it was. In the end it is up to the Captain (Pilot) to allow it or not.

The TSA may ask you to remove it from your carry on baggage and run it separately through the X-Ray machine (standard TSA procedure) and they may give it a "Swab", but they see these machines every day and should be no problem.

You will probably get more stares from other passengers than you will from the crew.... Happy CPAP traveling!

You make no mention of the destination or duration of the flight? Do you not own a machine which is on the approved list?

If it works on battery power and does not have to connect to the aircraft for any reason you stand a better chance. My guess is you should have looked at their list before making this purchase. Keep in mind they can also reject certain batteries.

And that TSA has no say if or when you can use any electronic devices on any aircraft and the final authority always rest with the pilot and crew - for safety reasons they can reject anything.

I have used the Everest 2 on Delta , on a number of overseas flights and never had any issues ...

The list of approved devices probably isn't complete. I believe Resmed has an open letter for this very reason, which instructs users of their machines on how they should approach the airlines with regard to traveling with and using PAP devices on flights. Having a device on the approved list would probably simplify matters, but if yours is not on the list you can probably fly with it without incident. Mind you, I do not have any first hand experience with this yet. I am basing the previous statement on some preliminary research I was doing after starting therapy.

So...why not contact The Powers That Be at Delta and ask? They can verify if the list is incomplete or not, and maybe tell you WHY it's complete, to date, if that's the case. Better to check before its critical.

Thanks for the feedback. I"ve taken the issue up the food chain of Delta and the University of Pittsburgh and they have unilaterally rejected using the Everest 2 on Delta. No explanation except their engineers say it doesn't meet FAA standards but no explanation of why its lacking.

I have an approved respironics machine and battery I will use for this flight to avoid conflict since my name is probably on some list with Delta for my flights to see if I try to sneak the Everest on. I probably would have done so but I wanted to try to get the Everest approved since the only machines on Delta's approved list are Resmed and Respironics and that seems in approporiate given the variety of manufacturers of machines on the market.

It is up to the mfg to get their products on the FAA approved list. I think the mfg of Everest has gone out of business.
