Advice? Mask doesn't fit anymore weight loss

Post by nobody » Mon Dec 01, 2014 3:47 am

I've lost 40lbs since I first started this CPAP therapy. I wasn't much overweight to start with, but now I'm not at all and I continue to lose weight.

I'm now having a problem where the mask (full face) I started out with seems to be too big. It leaks all the time no matter how I adjust it. Since I've been using this model/brand for years, I know this mask, so it's not a matter of getting used to it or how to use it.

The one I'm using is the smallest one made of that model and brand (mirage quattro xs). Do any of you have any advice for a mask that might fit me well now? Obviously my face is small and thin if the XS is too big. I don't like any other mask types except the full face.

You need to go try on some new ones. That fit your facial structure when lying down. And none of us here have a clue about your anatomy. We may like certain features of certain newer masks, but that won't help if they don't fit you. Even if someone looks superficially like you a bit, doesn't mean their mask will work for you.

Well I know that. Still could be suggestions. There is nowhere I can go to just try on masks let alone try them on lying down. I'd have to buy them first then once the package is open I can't return it.

Where do you get your masks from? Manufacturers usually have a 30 day trial period, and you can return the mask within that time period. When I started therapy last month, Apria gave me a medium Airfit F10. On the 29th day, I called Apria and requested the same mask in a small. They shipped the mask free of charge since it was within the 30 day period. I also was not asked to ship the old one back which is nice. If you supply yourself through online vendors, then I know that our hosts at cpap.com also offer the return insurance which allows you to return a mask within 30 days. So while I have no suggestions for you, you should at least be able to find a mask without paying for each and every one you try.

The local place I get them doesn't have that option. Return insurance cost money. I guess I could ask the sleep lab. They let me try a different mask at home once a long time ago. But I don't think they have a huge variety there. I don't know.

Cpap.com (sponsors of this forum) have a policy where you can try different masks for a small 'return' fee.

Hi Nobody,

Cpap.com offers several masks with free return insurance as an FYI. They are marked with the "free return insurance" icon.

If you see a mask on cpap.com that doesn't have free return insurance that you are interested in trying, there are other places that let you return the mask within 30 days without the return insurance fee. However, you might find that the shipping charge to return the mask might be more costly than if you have purchased the return insurance at cpap.com. So shop carefully.

Also, if you have a better deal at another place regarding the return insurance issue, call cpap.com for a price match.

Best of luck.

Depends on the mask. Some of the return fees are quite high.

XS Full face masks are about as small as they come. My pulmonary/sleep spec. group offers "Mask Sessions" for fittings where you can try diff masks and when one IS found they will write a script and/or submit to your DME for you. Chk around.
