remstar pro 2 c-flex---issues setting up hose?

Post by RyanMW » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:47 pm

When I go to plug in the breathing hose, it seems like the hose is too large for the port. I can get it to stay in there and there isn't any noticeable air leak when the machine is on, but the slightest of movements to the hose will pull the attachment from the port.
Am I just doing this wrong? Am I missing a piece or something? I read the manual and everything.

The machine also came with a humidifier. Do I need to attach that also, or is that optional?

Lastly, I read a warning about re-breathing air when the machine is off possibly causing suffocation. This is frightening to me. As long as I make sure the machine is on when I use it, I should be fine?

Thanks

You don't say if this is your first cpap?
Or if this is a used machine you purchased?

Assuming this is the correct hose for your machine and is your standard hose then no - no additional piece should be needed. The rubber of the hose should grip the port when pushed on. Perhaps this one is just old and worn out. You need a new hose but could try a rubber band or string as a way to tighten the grip on the port til then.
The machine also came with a humidifier. Do I need to attach that also, or is that optional?
While a humidifier is optional in most cases it is recommended to use esp. when getting congestion or nasal/mouth dryness.

You will find there are those who do not use a humidifier but it seems that many do. Try it both ways to see how you feel. IF your nasal passages swell up and you can't breath w/o the humidifier - add the humidifier but do use distilled water. And while there are those who use tap water - distilled water is recommended. You can search and read the debates on distilled for yourself but distilled is cheap at .99 cents a gallon and makes cleaning the water chamber unnecessary.

If you have ever seen mineral deposits in a sink or dishwasher that is what tap water will do to your humidifier. I just use distilled.

Here's what I think your problem is.

You bought the machine WITH the humidifier and disconnected it. But, you left the humidifier coupler attached. (See image in the following link)

You have two options.

Reattach the humidifier, fill it with water and use it.......

or

Put your finger in the hole in the coupler and pull it out. Then, push the hose ON the output air port and use it without a humidifier.

If you're using a full face mask, you have nothing to worry about regarding "rebreathing" your air. Full face masks have anti-asphyxiation valves which prevent that.

Thanks, Den. That was exactly it, you genius . I'm going to use it with the humidifier. Wish me luck with my recovery.
