Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
Lots of PR cpaps M series on craisglist but very few of my machine Remstar Pro. I have a 560 and saw a 550 for sale but the downside is no heated hose. What is the M series like? Looks smaller and might be good for back up / travel. Any disadvantages. I don't travel with humidifier so am not worried about heated hose part.
Has anyone upgraded from M to Pro and found a big benefit?

Re: Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
I have seen many forum members who have expressed positive thoughts about their old M Series machines. With that said, I did not have a good experience with mine. I had electrical problems that begin around year 3 and continued until year 5, when my insurance qualified me for a new machine.
By electrical problems I mean actual burning of wires & at that time the DME had gone out of business & other local DME's weren't at all helpful. Basically all told me they didn't do that kind of repair & since my insurance wouldn't pay for a new machine until the 5 year mark, they offered to sell me a new machine at THEIR marked-up prices. At that time I didn't have that kind of money for a new machine. So I did the repairs myself. Opened up the machine & found burnt wires, luckily it was not a circuit board but the wires just inside the casing that literally burnt into. I stripped, cut & spliced then rewired using electrical tape. This held for a while, then began smoking again, so I kept repeating the process. By the time I got a new machine I had gotten a smoke detector & mounted it on the wall just above the machine so it would alert me each time smoking began. During the day I kept the machine unplugged. I was sure glad when my 5 years were up.
I had not yet discovered this forum at that time. If I had, I'm sure someone would have given a name/number of someone who could have safely fixed it.
This was MY experience with the M Series. Now to be fair, if I had not had these electrical issues, I would have given this machine a good rating.

Re: Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
I am still using the Remstar M series auto apap that I purchased in 2009. The machine is a nice compact size. I use both filters, the grey one and the white one. They both seem to do a good job of filtering out particles. I have not had the opportunity to use the System One series yet. I do believe that there are many M series being sold second hand and the prices are very reasonable. The smart sellers will price the M series under 300.00

Thanks Greyghost. That's a bipap and thankfully all I need is an APAP. I think someone out there in another post could use this as they were looking for a bipap

Re: Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
Those prices are too high. I wouldn't pay more than around $175 for a 560 and $125 for a 550 at this point. Be patient, if you see something advertised a little bit about those numbers make an offer for cash, meet the seller at a place with an electrical outlet and test features and verify numbers.

things must be hella cheap in your neighborhood, because I haven't seen 'em anywhere close to that cheap elsewhere.Drowsy Dancer wrote:Those prices are too high. Re: Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
The PRS1 machines have many advantages over the M series, especially in the data collection. Apart from the better data in the PRS1, the M series uses a Smart Card for the data, which requires a different and problematic card reader and doesn't work with SleepyHead.Sleepysuz wrote:Lots of PR cpaps M series on craisglist but very few of my machine Remstar Pro. Don't overestimate the advantage of a smaller blower unit. You still have to lug along the power brick, the mask, the hose, the carry case, etc.
The M series has a little adapter part you have to put on the blower if you use it without the humidifier. Many people lose the part, if their DME ever gave it to them in the first place. If you get a used M series, be sure you get the "M series Outlet port" if you want to use it without the humidifier.

You don't see those prices every day. I actually saw the 560 and jumped on it the first week I started watching CL, then didn't spot the deal on the 550 until six months of watching later (I'd check once a week or once every two weeks).palerider wrote:things must be hella cheap in your neighborhood, because I haven't seen 'em anywhere close to that cheap elsewhere.Drowsy Dancer wrote:Those prices are too high. Also, I live in a major metropolitan area and usually drive to the suburbs for those prices, and the machines are not brand new (but they were verified low hours).

Re: Craigslist M seris vs Remstar Pro
I've found PRS1 Auto for $200 to 300, and S9 AutoSet for $250 to $300 within somewhat reasonable driving distance near my major metro area. I've often had to watch a few months before I get a deal that good. I also have to ignore a LOT of ridiculously high prices as well.

Also, of course, if the ad has been up for a while, you know that the seller might be willing to accept a lower price than advertised. That is how I got my 550 for $125. The asking price was higher.archangle wrote:I've found PRS1 Auto for $200 to 300, and S9 AutoSet for $250 to $300 within somewhat reasonable driving distance near my major metro area.
