Choice: Which of these 2 machines?
Choice: Which of these 2 machines?
I am new here, but I have been a user for 7 years on a REMstar plus. Now I get a new one, I would like your opinion on which of these machines I should get, pros, cons, reliability, cleaning issues, travel, ease of use, etc. My choices: 1) Res Med S9 (IP21) or 2) REMstar Auto, DOM 560P (IP22), they both have the attachable humidor. Please advise, Thanks
Re: Choice: Which of these 2 machines?
as I pointed out on that other forum, what you've got in parenthesis are not model numbers, they're ratings for "intrusion protection".will1895 wrote: 1) Res Med S9 (IP21) or 2) REMstar Auto, DOM 560P (IP22),
resmed model numbers start with REF and are five digits, like 36005, for the autoset, which is equivilant to the prs1 560.

Re: Choice: Which of these 2 machines?
If you really mean Resmed S9 Autoset (or S10? that's the newest one) versus the equivalent Remstar - they are both really good machines. I use the Resmed Auto, but that's just because my ENT sold me a Resmed Escape and it saved me money not having to buy another humidifier.
You seem used to the Remstar line, so you might stick with that if you've been happy with it. Resmed is a little pricier than the Remstar if you are paying for it from your own pocket.
I really think it is personal preference (which I know isn't helpful - because who is going to buy both machines to compare them!!)

Thanks, the one I can get is the Resmed s9 36005, or the Remstar DOM 560 P , I just need to know which one is the newest on the market and highest rated. Insurance will be taking care of it, thank goodness.

While they are both good machines I prefer Respironics cuz the DC power cord is much, much less and I have supplies that fit the Respironics machines.will1895 wrote:Thanks, the one I can get is the Resmed s9 36005, or the Remstar DOM 560 P , I just need to know which one is the newest on the market and highest rated. What pressure are you currently using with the old brick?
I have used both brands..it's really a toss up. They both have minor pros and cons but none are deal breakers or deal makers IMHO.
If you ever like to camp or go off the grid where there is no power the PR S1 would be the easiest and least costly machine as the S9 requires a special converter that costs around $85 so you can use it with a 12 volt battery.
If you have pressure needs in the teens and exhaling against those pressures is sometimes a chore...the exhale relief offered with the S9 might be something you would like.
The newest ResMed isn't the S9...it's the AirSense 10 series and that AutoSet. There's actually 2 AirSense 10 AutoSets..the regular machine and a new for her model that has an additional apap mode available beyond the standard apap mode.
Released mid August of this year. A few forum members here have that AirSense machine and also have used the S9 in the past but most are totally new to cpap so they don't really have anything to compare to.

Pugsy, can you elaborate on the PR S1 for camping/travel? Does it need a converter?

No..doesn't need a converter because it already runs off 12v.
ResMed machines run off 24 volts so most batteries are 12 v so there has to be a change from make the S9 work with 12 v battery.
For more specific details you should pick the brains of the battery geeks. I am not included in that group.
My eyes glass over.
If you have the 60 Series machine you would likely need this
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/dc-pow ... hines.html
If the 50 series I think that is what is showing in your profile but maybe you chose the wrong machine.
I think this works

Beyond that...and probably would be a good idea to clarify with one of the battery geeks...you probably would be wise to ask about further set up.
