sudden pain due to a nasal pillow, using size for 7 months

Post by College3girls » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:09 am

I have been using the Airfit nasal pillow for over 7 months, changing the pillow as needed due to wear, but not the size. I experienced severe nose pain at the tip of my nose a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't even touch the tip of my nose. At first I wasn't sure if it was from my glasses ( not new), or my nasal pillows. I switched to my full face mask I had in reserve, and the pain has resolved.

I tend to have more problems with aerophagia with the full face, but at least this attempt is more manageable than when I started APAP, so I will probably stay with the full face now, since it fits comfortably, and using it I don't need a chinstrap to avoid mouth breathing.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem, with a faithful, comfortable mask, suddenly becoming unusable. I didn't have any stuffy nose problems or any changes that I could think of.

I have never replaced the headgear. Could this be the problem? For other users of the Airfit nasal, how long have your pillows and headgear gone before needing replacement?

Been using the same P10 headgear since starting with this mask mid Jan of this year.
Just changed to a new nasal pillow last week from the very first nasal pillow I started with....so mid Jan to mid Oct on first nasal pillows.
Never have had any pain like you have described in over 5 years using nasal pillow mask of any kind.

One night while on a visit, while putting on the nasal pillows and straps in the dark my straps popped off.

I put them back on in the dark and went to sleep.

I woke up with a very sore nose. In the dark I had put the straps on backwards. I reattached the straps and didn't have the problem.

Or it might be said the nasal plugs were upside down so their tilt was the wrong way.

You might want to look at the orientation of the nasal pillows to see if that is the problem. It isn't immediately obvious.
