Help- S8 Vantage smartstart disabled?

Hi folks,

Last night I used my brand new Resmed S8 with my brand new Swift mask. I feel great today! (AHI of 5.5!)

I've been lurking here and have learned a lot from you guys. Thanks much!

I have a question: when I go through the settings on the clinical menu, I see that smartstart is off, and there is no "change" option so I can turn it on. I'm able to change most of the other settings. Has this been disabled on my machine or something? If so, how can I enable it?

Oh heck, while I have you, do you mind answering some of my other questions about the S8?

- The manual doesn't give much info. I assume there's a clinician manual that explains a lot more? Is there a way for me to get one?

- Should the S8 have come with a Smart card? I don't see one.

- When I turn on the machine, the humidifier light doesn't turn on (and I have the dial at about 3). The humidifier is set to the H3I in the settings menu -- is there something else that needs to be done?

- Under smart data, what does "Pressure: On" mean? What is "auto appear"?

- What does Usage: 0000/0000 mean?

It sounds like you have the S8 Autoset Vantage. Is that correct?

Yes. I purchased one on ebay for $6. It's a .pdf file, so you'll receive it within a matter of hours.

The Vantage does come with a smart card. It's in a heavy cardboard foldover brochure-like holder. My clinician initially kept it not realizing what it was. He mailed mine to me. I'd call your DME and tell them that you didn't receive the card. The good news is that the Vantage records 365 days of data without having the card installed. The card is used for transfer only.

Under smart data, what does "Pressure: On" mean? What is "auto appear"?

The smart data is data that appears to the user (without accessing the clinician's menu) after each use. The pressure setting will show you what your 90% pressure was for the previous night. To see the data, you have to unplug and re-plug the machine.

What does Usage: 0000/0000 mean?

That is where your machine will track the number of hours that your machine is in use.

On the humidifier -- I don't have mine yet, but my understanding was that the Vantage should auto-detect it. You might want to check the clinician's settings to make sure that yor machine recognizes the humidifier.
