what are ultra fine filters made of?

Post by nobody » Tue Oct 07, 2014 6:03 pm

It looks like fiberglass. That can't be good for my lungs.

They don't go into your lungs... they STOP things from going in!

Yes but if they're made of fiberglass then bits could break off and travel through the machine and into my mask then into my lungs. That's why people who work with insulation wear protective masks.

According to this link, they're made of "paper".

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... mments-tab

Important Tips

Tips for inserting filters:

The machine may be used with both the white paper and foam filters, or only the foam filter only. Using both filters increases the level of filtration.

When using both the white paper filter and foam filter:

Insert the paper filter into the filter hole on the back of the machine first.
Face the mesh-side of the filter into the machine with the soft fuzzy side facing out.
Fold the tab to face outward for easy removal of the filters.
Next insert the foam filter into the filter area, on top of the paper filter.

If it's going to worry you that much, don't use them. I've never used the white fine filters. I gave away most of the ones I had.

Hmmm. Yeah the front part of it seems like it could be paper, but the back part seems like fiberglass. Hard to imagine making paper look like that, it's pretty distinctive ya know?

Oh and looking at that image, they aren't the same as those. The ones I get don't have the tab at the top. Those are actually better ones because the backing is plastic and they seem thicker and don't appear to have any fiberglass on them. But the DME won't give me those even when I ask for them, they give me the cheaper ones with what looks like fiberglass backing. Maybe I should buy those (from the link you gave) instead. Yeah I think I will. Thank you.

Even if they were (hypothetically) made of fiberglass, the particles would never get to you anyway. The fan inside the machine is doing about 20,000 rpms, which would obliterate it and then the pieces would fall into the water in the HH tank and stay there......because they would be too heavy to get carried out of there with the water vapor molecules.

Put together an order of $100 or more worth of stuff and get free shipping.
That's what I've always done......headgear, mask seals, smart cards, etc. It doesn't take much to reach $100.

I'm not going to spend $100 when I have 100% insurance coverage on my CPAP stuff. The only reason I'd buy from some place else is because the DME won't give me the filters I think are better and safer and they shouldn't cost that much. There's no reason shipping should be more than a couple bucks on a packet of filters.

First of all, I didn't say it was fiberglass I asked what they're made of and said it *looks like* fiberglass. And considering how fine the strands are, I'm sure that breathing tiny plastic bits couldn't be good for my lungs either. I have no way of knowing exactly what it's made of, but I'm 100% certain that it *looks like* fiberglass. Just because you think something wouldn't be done doesn't mean it wouldn't. There are lots of people that get hurt from medical devices, medications etc because corners are cut and unsafe materials are used. These businesses consider the cost of lawsuits in their cost of doing business, doesn't matter to them that real people get hurt. Matter of fact, believe it or don't I don't care. I just don't want filters that appear to be made of fiberglass.

wait when they have free shipping. Happens every now and then. buy them then. I just got some the other day when they had free shipping.

If you are concerned about what they are DON'T USE THEM.. simple. You are in control.

Basically, I understand that the primary purpose of the filter is to protect the inside of the CPAP unit. No particles from the filter would make it through the machine, the humidifier/water and the hose. To protect you from any contaminant you would need a filter in the hose or mask. Are you sure that you don't have a fiberglass filter in your furnace?

Agreed about the free shipping promotions from our host. No minimum either. Too bad you just missed it, but it'll be back again before too long. I got it for my $25 order last week.
