CPAP BATTERY

I purchased a battery to power my CPAP machine when I was in Portugal last month but ran into problems when I had to recharge it: it killed the converter, probably because I had to run the converter for several consecutive hours. Does anyone know of a converter that can recharge the battery without dying?
