Purchase Used Machine
Purchase Used Machine
I have no insurance and have a strong speculation I certainly have a sleep apnea. I have did a test and it recommended to start at 8. I am over weight and I am extremely tired all the time. I am looking to purchase a good quality machine if anyone is looking to sell.

Re: Purchase Used Machine
Others will be along to give you more tips, but you need an automatic cpap machine, and it needs to be able to give you data so you can see how your therapy is going. You could try Craigslist for a used machine from a person, or Secondwind dot com for a used or open box machine that has a guarantee. CPAP.com, the owner of this web-site, also sells CPAPs. I am very happy with the quietness of my ResMed S-9 automatic CPAP with the H51 heated humidifier and Climateline heated house. The hardest thing to find that is comfortable is a mask, and you can find them on CPAP.com but you need a prescription for them. Other members of the forum here can tell you how to get around the required prescription by buying different pieces of masks on E-bay, or buying slightly used masks from people who own them. Your family Dr can write you a prescription, and it should say "CPAP mask of patient's choice".
There are other good machines out there, just look for one that is full-data capable so you can run it through software available to see how well your therapy is going and weak it when necessary.
You might find some used masks for sale in the thread called "Great Pillow Exchange" just put that in the search box on the home page.
Good luck! And welcome to the club you never thought you would want to join, but this is great place to start to learn all you can about sleep apnea and get to feeling better. The folks are helpful and span the world, so somebody is almost always on-line here.

Re: Purchase Used Machine
As long as you are on your own, it is important you get a machine with full data.
Google maskarrayed, and read Jan's blog on choosing a good machine.
Any medical professional can write a prescription if you need one; you only need to find one that will.

Re: Purchase Used Machine
New to all of this...
I asked around to friends...
Lots of people don't take the time or have the will to get used to using the machine..
I was just diagnosed one week ago ... AHI of 62.. down to 19 after 3 nights of using the machine... Donated by
my best friends Wife who had Her deviated septum fixed surgically..
I can not believe the difference I already feel... I realize now I've had apnea for the last 27 years..
Craigslist is also a good source.. However it is important to do the research first!...
Sleepyhead is awesome software BTW...
Good Luck
Best Regards,
MotorChris

Re: Purchase Used Machine
Don't hesitate to purchase a used machine, as long as it is from someone reputable, like STLMark on this forum, secondwindcpap.com, or such. These machines run for thousands of trouble-free hours, my backup has 16,000 hours on it. So you will get many years of service out of a gently used machine. Always look at the "run hours" on the machine you are considering, but anything under 1,000 should be fine.

Re: Purchase Used Machine
I've had good success with 3 used machines I've purchased off craigslist to use for travel, backup, 2nd home, etc. I paid $60, $75 and $100.00 for them and gotten accessories like masks and carry bags often thrown in with the machines so don't get ripped off buying something really expensive.
Re: Purchase Used Machine
I got mine from secondwind. Good price and a one year warranty. They never asked for a prescription, but I guess they were supposed to. I had one to give them if they did.
I'm curious, why, if you had a test, do you only speculate you have OSA? Was this a sleep study, either done in a lab or a home test? Did whoever performed the test give you a prescription?

Re: Purchase Used Machine
Hello all..i'm new to this site and i came on here to actually try to sell a used Bipap machine. my mother had stage 4 emphysema and lost that battle this past August the last time she came out of the hospital they sent her home with this machine. she hated using it and between the time she got it and the time she passed away, it was used a total of 27 hours. i did all the maintenance on it for her, cleaned the filter and the heated tube and the water tank. i did already put in my info at secondwind.com and some other site i forget at the moment, but if i could sell it to someone who needs it on this site and sell it for a decent price without ripping someone off, i would rather do that. if anyone is interested, please feel free to contact me. michellelynn93@gmail.com

You might want to start a new thread to offer this machine for sale. Also, the specific brand and model designation. Whether it has a humidifier and any other accessories. And, a ballpark price.
