Backpacking CPAP machines
Backpacking CPAP machines
So has anyone had a practical experience with a solar-charged-battery-powered CPAP machine, like the Transcend Travel CPAP? Anyone spent a week at 8000 ft. with one of these? I'd like to, but before I drop $1k on the hardware, I'd like to know if it works.

Yea, I was wondering about how CPAP users do hiking with these things. Camping.
Re: Backpacking CPAP machines
I have used my ResMed machine successfully for car camping. As long as the machine has a 12v DC input you can get a 12v adapter that plugs into a cigarette lighter outlet in your car. You may have to splice in a length of wire if the adapter wire won't reach your tent or whatever you're sleeping in. I added about 15' to my adapter using household two-wire outlet plug wire, like lamp cord. Works just fine and as long as you start with a good, charged up car battery. You should get at least a nite or two without having to start your car and recharge the battery.

If you wanted to go off the grid far enough to need a battery, you might consider going horseback.
Batteries can be heavy.
