Best way to sterilize nasal pillow

Post by bbf » Tue Sep 02, 2014 7:38 pm

I am helping a friend new to cpap find a mask that works for her, DME won't let her swap for a third mask after no luck with Eson and Swift fx. I have a slightly used swift nano she wants to try before purchasing on her own. Any suggestions on best way to sterilize? I was going to boil for 5 minutes with 1 tsp baking soda as recommended on another thread for occasional cleaning. Thanks.

Warm water with a germicidal soap solution should do it, then rinse and air dry.

resmed says:
70°C-100 min; 75°C-30 min 80°C-10 min; 90°C-1 min

the hotter, the shorter the time.

nothing about boiling.

I'll leave it to you to convert to F degrees if you like that kind of thing

Just wash it in a solution of Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water and it should be fine. Anything beyond that is unnecessary.

You wouldn't want them to outnumber us, would you?

If you're worried about heat, look up Control III disinfectant from our host, cpap.com.

I've put the Swift FX pillow mask into hot water with everything but the headgear. Then I soak the headgear in 90% alcohol overnight. For the hot water, I boil a big pot of water, turn off the heat, then dunk drop the disassembled plastic mask parts into the water, and leave them to cool. Some masks have short hoses that won't stand the heat, but I've had no problems with the Swift FX hoses.

I also dishwash the Swift FX parts, but ResMed says not to dishwash mask parts.

No reason not to do all three cleaning methods.
