Getting desperate

Post by DCTom » Tue Jun 13, 2006 9:25 am

Folks I've tried everything. After more than a year of trial and error, I finally found the right combination of mask and machine. The full-face mask along with REMStar C-Flex Plus works great and is comfortable. But the problem is, CPAP just seems to wake me up. I can never, ever get into a deep sleep with the thing! It seems like my body and brain just don't want to accept the pressure. Even with C-flex, which is so great that I have to look at the machine to make sure it's on. But even so, something about CPAP just does not seem to agree with me. I wake up 2-3 hours into it and it feels like my head will explode or something. I am so tired of fighting this battle. Someone help!

If I had known I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

You need to repeat a sleep study with your own mask in the sleep lab. Sounds as though you're having some type of arousals or awakenings that may or may not be CPAP related.

Contact your physician and get retested where you can be monitored all night.

Good Luck

Tom,
Its very very difficult to know what's going on, when your machine is one that doesn't record your sleep events.

It's anyone's guess if you're waking from too little pressure, (does the headache indicated oxygen desaturations) or too much pressure (ditto).

You either have to return to your doctor, tell him/her what's going on, and request their help ( a repeat study? a pulse oximeter for a few nights? other health issues?). Or use your prescription to by a machine that will give you more info about your therapy.

Puritan-Bennett, Resmed, and Respironics make machine with data reproting options, for Resmed's you don't even have to buy software .

There's no magic about this - I doubt any of us know more than you at this point about what's going on in your therapy.

This has to do with your health and quality of life in the remaining years of your life. A machine has a five year warranty, which is 60 months, divide the price of a new machine by 60, and ask yourself if you aren't worth it.

Take care, and good luck!
O.
