How Long Before I feel Better?

Post by GarthVador » Sun Aug 06, 2006 5:36 am

HI All!

I got my gear Friday, Resmed RemstarPlus w/ integrated heated humidifier and Fisher & Paykel Flexfit HC431. Aparrhea(my DME) said that this is the best equipment out there. And it was also the same rig used on my 2nd Sleep study, in which I had good results. Friday night, my wife said I had a few episodes when I was snoring. She said that it seemed like I was fighting the CPAP to snore on a few occasions. The pressure prescribed was 14cm, and I have been using the ramp feature. She said she checked the pressure and it was at 14cm during the episodes. How long does it usually take for you to adjust to this thing, especially if I am fighting the cpap subconsiously?

Another peculiar thing is when i filled the humidifier on friday, i woke up with the reservoir empty, and this morning I woke up with the resevoir half empty (or Half full). I rinse and fill the thing everynight. On a side note, is there anyway to integrate a Beer IV tube in my setup. I tend to get a little parched at night. ANd it seems my tongue gets stuck to the roof of my mouth.

Relief varies from person to person. Some people see it immedately, and for others, it takes a bit longer.

I started feeling a little better after a few weeks. Now after 3 1/2 months, I really feel like a different person. Look for little changes at first... things like not having to pump caffeine after lunch or not feeling drained until later in the afternoon. I also noticed that I could get out of be easier in the morning. After a while, you'll see the bigger effects... like being able to sit in the evening and not nod off...

Garth-Props to you for taking the plunge and getting treatment! I have been on Cpap since May, and I feel like a new person. That did not happen overnight, but I hear that's normal. If you're going through a whole tank of water in one night, I would have to say that you are having a LOT of mask leaks. Those leaks will suck the water right up, at least that has been my experience, and I have also read that on this board. Also, if you are feeling parched, you need to turn your humidifier up a notch or two, but you first need to address the mask leak so the added humidity will do you some good. Although, the beer does sound like a viable solution Do some more reading on this board. These people have helped me SO much. Good luck!
