search here on the forum, there's a long thread from darth lady and morbius dealing with that exact thing.C&C wrote:I had to google it but yes that is exactly what it waspalerider wrote: does the term "watchpat" mean anything to you?
if so, it's a lot more than an oximeter.
Can an oximeter give a false positive reading?

Get OSCAR

Those "anxious feelings" you are having are probably caused by your cessation of breathing an average of 14.03 times per hour.
Just sayin'.
Just sayin'.

Have a look at this: http://www.itamar-medical.com/prdFiles/ ... ochure.pdf
It explains your report in some detail and provides definitions.

But it does not say "cessation of breathing".Jay Aitchsee wrote:Those "anxious feelings" you are having are probably caused by your cessation of breathing an average of 14.03 times per hour.

Re: Can an oximeter give a false positive reading?
thanks
sucks that i don't have the raw data because i can't zoom in. i'm still a bit dumbfounded that it's saying i slept for ~400 minutes when i think the correct number should be about half of that.
maybe i will eventually get some type of data acquisition setup to track things over time. my doctor told me yesterday that i should continue to lose weight and then we should retest. i was 250lbs (BMI 35.9) when i took the WatchPAT test and i'm currently ~237 (BMI 34.0). i would like to get down to at least 220lbs before i check again. as a side note, i always thought the BMI thing was funny. at the upper range of "normal BMI", I would weigh 173lbs, which would make me look like a bodybuilder. even at 200, i am very lean.

Right! Poor choice of words. Something like "cessation or reduction" of respiration" with a link to the definitions might have been better.Morbius wrote:But it does not say "cessation of breathing".

Now why do you suppose they have to say "includes"?PAT AHI
This Index includes the number of Apnea and Hypopnea events per hour of actual sleep.
Clearly, it "includes" some stuff that isn't.....

"the sleep testing machines are better at determining whether you're asleep than you are.
before I started cpap, I'd watch tv, and I'd be told "you were snoring" and yet I'd swear that I never went to sleep.... of course, watching that tv show again, there'd be big chunks of it that I didn't remember..
the point is, your brain is really good at lying to you about things like that."
no, if you were a bodybuilder, your BMI would list you as obese, since BMI doesn't take into consideration what the weight is composed of. many olympic athletes are thus overweight, or obese according to BMI.C&C wrote:maybe i will eventually get some type of data acquisition setup to track things over time. my doctor told me yesterday that i should continue to lose weight and then we should retest. i was 250lbs (BMI 35.9) when i took the WatchPAT test and i'm currently ~237 (BMI 34.0). i would like to get down to at least 220lbs before i check again. as a side note, i always thought the BMI thing was funny. at the upper range of "normal BMI", I would weigh 173lbs, which would make me look like a bodybuilder. even at 200, i am very lean.

Re: Can an oximeter give a false positive reading?
i hear you, but to play devil's advocate one last time: you can get really drunk and not remember a lot of things all while being awake. you can even forget what you had for lunch yesterday. so while memory retention could yield insight as to whether or not you're alseep, it can't be relied onpalerider wrote: "the sleep testing machines are better at determining whether you're asleep than you are.

in fact, part of the reason that i "knew" i was awake was because i kept checking the clock like an imbecile
