Question about CA's
So I am still learning sleepyhead, the graphs confuzzle the heck out of me, but I have a question in regards to the Clear Airway events. I looked at all the days that indicated I had 1 or 2 CA events and almost all of them occur around the time I wake up, look at the clock and think "crap, only x more time before that evil alarm goes off". A few were more in the middle of the night but the majority of them are within an hour or so before my alarm is set to go off and I tend to wake and look at the clock around that time. Could the machine be mistaking these? I don't know how, because I really don't recall waking and holding my breath as I check the clock but I guess I am more curious about them happening around the same time frame most days. Does anyone else tend to have apneas that seem to happen around the same times every night/morning?
Re: Question about CA's
Most have a few CA's when going to sleep and when just about to awaken, all of which are perfectly normal... the time to worry would be if you had very many throughout the night. But don't try to measure (or become aware of) ones that you think take place when awake - not the same thing and the machines only pick-up 'asleep' events, though you may think you're having them... it's not about consciously holding your breath as it is about just not breathing.

My CA's occur just before I wake up too. Not much you can do about then, and you seem to have only a few.

Re: Question about CA's
Our breathing is more erratic when we are awake, or in the process of waking up, as opposed to an even rhythm while asleep . Most machines record a CA if we don't breathe for more than 9-10 seconds. Because of this a (normal) CA is typical while we go to sleep and when we wake up.distantdreamer wrote:So I am still learning sleepyhead, the graphs confuzzle the heck out of me, but I have a question in regards to the Clear Airway events. You are worrying needlessly.distantdreamer wrote:1 or 2 CA
How long were these events?

Interesting info. I wasn't aware that they can happen when falling asleep or waking. That makes sense with the time frames they occur and since it really is 1 or 2 a day and some days 0 I wont worry about it (unless of course that increases). Thanks all for the input

around here, it's referred to as "swj" or "sleep/wake junk" a term reportedly coined by our very own morbius, to describe the irregularities in the breathing pattern as you go from awake breathing to asleep breathing, and it's common to have weirdness as things settle down, or you're waking up.distantdreamer wrote:Interesting info. it's also fairly common to hold your breath while you're shifting position.
I've got an adapter for the s9 that lets me watch the data in real time, and I've done this with someone sleeping, and usually when they turn over, they stop breathing during that movement, and if that's long enough, the machine flags a central.
