Question about 30 day mask return policy

Post by slprrrr » Tue Apr 14, 2015 7:34 am

How does the 30 day mask return policy work with most DMEs and mask manufacturers?

If you try a Respironics full face mask and you don't like it, would you then be able to try a Resmed nasal pillows mask within 30 days, and then a Fischer and Paykel nasal mask within 30 days of that, at no extra cost to you or the DME, as long as the DME goes through the hassle of filling out 30 day return paperwork for Respironics and Resmed? Or would you need to try other mask types of the same brand you started with to use the 30 day return policy at no cost? Would trying other mask brands in this scenario cost the DME the price of 3 masks?

Each DME has their own policy...check with them. Some allow 1 exchange some allow many. The manufacturer shouldn't matter.

I wonder where all of the returned/used masks end up. Maybe the sleep study joints buy em.

They end up in the trash can most of the time.

Sleep labs most often use masks donated by the manufacturers or they buy them...but they don't reuse old masks returned by patients.

The DMEs fill out a form and get a replacement or reimbursement from the manufacturers.

I suspect a fair number end up on ebay, or craigslist.

Around here, they appear on Craig's list with notice of returns, or sleep lab use only imprinted on them. If they asked a decent price for them, and not close to list for them, I would probably take them up on a sale or two. A little alcohol would disinfect them fine.
