oximeter readings

Post by morelia » Sun Apr 05, 2015 7:46 pm

Hello,
I am fairly new to CPAP; I have been on therapy for a month now and tried several different masks I finally chose the F&P ESSON; I travel some for work reasons and I won't be able to take my Icon with me on a few times; I am looking for a mitigation alternative just for those very few times; so, I got me a TRD and to test (to my poor knowledge) it it helps, I got me an oximeter.
I need a little help comparing the readings from sleepyhead; I am showing one night with my CPAP+oximeter and two nights with only the TRD+oximeter... can someone look at these and provide some feedback, please? I need to understand if a TRD will help the few times when/where I cannot use my Icon... so far on those two trial days, I did not wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I did not woke up with headache... thank you for your advice... *jb

Your first night with xPAP looks fairly normal.

The first night with the TRD also looks reasonable but it looks like you had some artifacts from movement. If those low spikes at roughly 00:50 and 03:20 are not artifacts, you are in trouble. They look like artifacts.

The second night with the TRD looks like it wasn't very restful. Not too bad, but not good either. It looks like you were prime to drop into a deeper sleep stage at around 03:00 but then rolled around a little and you stayed in a lighter stage of sleep.

Of the three, I like the night on the xPAP the best. The other two nights are OK so you can probably use your TRD for limited times and keep oxygen in your blood.

I have been looking into the issue of getting a oximeter but my machine is apparently not compatible with Sleepyhead or oximeter. In fact. my events clear at a much lower pressure of about 7cms but my sao2 on the split-night sleep study was not adequate until I reached supine titrated level of 12, and the oxygen Sa02 was only at 92.5%!

I did call up 3B and they were not aware of an interface between an oximeter and their auto CPAP machine, despite the fact there is a USB port on it.

This is my first post on the forum and I'm using Tapatalk, so I do not know if my information is posted or not. Please try to give me a bit of slack as a newbie on this particular forum.

I now have machine set for straight CPAP of 12cm.

Comments appreciated! Thanks.

July, what's PM?

HoseCrusher, Thank you for your time and response; I would never be able to figure out that interpretation on my own... so I guess I will use my TRD for very shorts periods of time when not possible to use my ICON for it may be better than suffer my OSA without a palliative. Thanks again!

It appears that OP's Sp02 was much improved with xPAP.

I see oxygen levels with the TRD that are barely adequate, and sometimes downright inadequate and agree with the other poster, hosecrusher, as to limited sole use of said TRD. I don't know and do not have background to determine if the really low oxy levels are artifacts, or not, but when one looks at the corresponding pulse rates they may not be artifacts. I would think it depends upon the confidence you place in your oximeter, also.
