A Couple of things...

Post by RAMBLINMAN » Thu Aug 03, 2006 5:43 pm

Hi All,

It's been awhile since I last posted, but a couple of things has come up.

Well I started using my cpap equipment since Oct. of 05 and believe it or not been using it ever day. I still get this why me feeling everytime I put it on when I go to bed, but to be honest I'm starting to feel like I don't want to go to sleep without it.

I mean the thought of ever getting up in the morning with the headaces and groggy feelings, tired...but instead getting up with a clear head, no headaces / groggy feelings scares me.

I wonder has anyone ever not use there cpap and wake up the morning feeling good?

One time I got up and went back to sleep without my cpap and I woke up feeling really bad, and a reality kinda hit me to say that If whenever I go to sleep and I dont' have my mask on I'm going to wake up feeling like crap. .

Another thing since I received my cpap equipment I think I got a call once from ( I'm not sure ) either from Apria or my Insurance and was asked if I was using the equipment and was it helping.

The other night I notice that my hose had a split in it close to the end and I patched it using tape. Now how does someone get a replacement hose????

Am I on my own to get one or do I call my DME ( Apria ) and ask them if they can send me a new hose...and if so whos pays for it....????

pays for a new hose every month i believe they told me
and mine is 100 percent covered ...

if you have a copay you would pay that

or pay cpap.com for one ... but if you are less then 100 dollars
you pay 7 dollars shipping

I would think that Apria considers hoses to be a regular replaceable item, like cpap filters. I think most polivies cover for hoses to be replaced every 3-6 months.

Hi Ken,

Nice to see you post again.

Here's a hose from CPAP.COM. Through a storefront DME, you'll probably pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $60.

Best wishes,

Apria has a schedule for equipment replacement. Ask them for it and they'll send it to you. It includes things like:
  • hose ... 1 per month (6 ft or any size humidifier hose)
    FF mask ... 1 per 6 months
FF cushion ... 1 per month
    etc.
The schedule applies to Medicare, Aetna, UHC, MAMSI and most insurance plans -- acording to the notation on the list they sent me.

Hmmm. If that's really 1 per month on the FF cushion, I should get one .

I called Apria today and they said I can get a new mask every 3 months, and my mask is a hybrid.

Go figure. It looks as though they're considering the hybrid to be a kind of nasal mask (for which their replacement interval is 3 months) rather than a full face mask. Unless it's because of the particular insurance you have. But it's lucky for you, however they're doing it.

Medicare standard replacement schedule is ...
2 disposable filters per month
1 Cpap tubing per month
1 Mask cushion per month (Any kind of mask)
1 Entire Mask system every three months(any kind of mask)
1 Headgear system every six months

Other insurances may not follow the same schedule, but you can always check with your insurance company, some follow medicare guidelines. Also, tubing for $60 is nuts. It should be around $20.

I've done this several times, and had the same results, even though it was around 0500. I'd been better off to get up at that time as intended, but fell back asleep - unintentionally, but paid for it. It seems that just a few hours of apnea will do me in. Arggggggggghhhhhhhhh

Me wonders why this is... ya know, "logically," sleeping for a couple of hours without the CPAP seems like it would just be the same as getting NO sleep, but I have had the exact same experience as you guys - if I sleep without it, even a nap for an hour, I wake up feeling crummy. What I wonder is, if you're sleeping, even for an hour, and not getting oxygenated, do you get some kind of CO2 build-up or something that makes you feel bad? Inquiring minds...
