Do I need to go back to Dr

Post by ~Q~ » Sun Apr 05, 2015 1:44 am

I stopped using my cpap for awhile because I had to work out of town for a few months and it was too difficult to bring with me. I am back on it but wonder if I need go back and get my pressure checked? I really hated the sleep test the first few times.

Thanks

Greg

Why don't you use SleepyHead free software to see for yourself how things look? You can download from Pugsy's signature lines.

NO! Turn it on. Use it. Every night.

SleepyHead's a good idea even if you had been using the CPAP every night anyway. Doubly so if you have problems.

Your machine sort of gives you a mini-sleep test every night. Use it to check to see if you're having problems.

Hi Julie. Last night I had 1.4 periodic breathing which I have never had before and an AHI of 5.7 - highest ever. What does the periodic breathing indicate? I have installed the sleepyhead software, but am not very proficient at reading it yet.

A small amount of Periodic Breathing every now and then doesn't indicate anything in particular and can (and should be) ignored. A 1.4% time in Periodic Breathing on an isolated night is a small amount.

Periodic breathing becomes a concern when there's a lot of it being scored night after night AND there's a history of heart disease, particularly congestive heart failure. In that case, the periodic breathing may actually be a very specific form of periodic breathing called Cheney-Stokes Respiration, and it may indicate that the treatment of the root cause (the heart disease) needs to be adjusted.

Don't worry about the PB for now - it wasn't excessive or long, but it's important that you know what is happening. Take a screen shot of your graphs (leave out the calendar) and go to Imgur.com where you can then post a link in this thread to the Imgur pix. There are instructions (easy ones) how to do it in Pugsy's note - first on main pg under 'Announcements' on top. Then we can see what's what and advise you. As AA said, you should not have gone off your machine for that time - we all travel and manage to take equipment with us, and/or have at least old backup machines at the other end if the destination's the same. And btw - that's Cheyne-Stokes, not Cheney (thank goodness ) and you shouldn't even bother looking that up right now as it will only take you down a new and unnecessarily confusing path. Get the graphs up here and we'll let you know what's what.

Oh - just realized you're not Q, but I guess I'm talking to both of you.

Just forgive yourself for going off the hose, strap up, lie down, and sleep.

As others have said......"No". Just use it and monitor your data with software. It's that simple.

Thanks everyone. Always good to post here

I have used Sleepyhead, but I just can't remember what is good vs bad. I brought up my data for the last few days and my AHI for the nights vary between .8 and 3. Looking back at my relic data, it looks like I'm back in the zone. I'm not seeing a bunch of obstructive apneas in there. Here's my sleephead data from last night.

What I'm seeing in your sleep data looks fine to me. Numbers are better than my usual, since I typically get a few centrals thrown in just for luck. Mask leaks go up at the end of the night there, but I don't think that they're excessive for a PR. So it looks to me like you're off to a good start. I'd say keep monitoring your sleep data, but things look pretty good and under control.
