I HAVE NO HOPE LEFT NOW

MY DOCTOR FAXED IN MY PRESCRIPTION FOR APAP last Friday but apparently APRIA lost it or some crap. My doctor had to fax another prescription to them and now I HAVE TO WAIT for at least 9 days for Apria to get the authorization from my insurance. . In the meantime I feel like sleep apnea is killing me both phycially and emotionally LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL

A Resmed AirSense A10 Autoset is NOT a brick.

Just make sure the machine says Autoset on it, and you'll be fine.

Hi chefmate. Awesome but funny thing... my son is also a chef. Not so funny thing, my work involves risk management and getting to the bottom of problems . I have a suspicious feeling that the root cause of your life's painful symptoms that you describe may just be the lack of quality sleep. Google it. There are many smart, experienced and helpful folks on this board that can be your mentor. Stay tuned to this board for excellent guidance.

Lurker here

I'm in a similar situation as you. Diagnosed with depression at around 19 years old. Decided to get treatment only 6 weeks ago. I'm 30. Except there was no excessive eating

Was on anti-depressant for 3-4 years during early 19 years - 23 years and didn't really help much, well once in a blue moon I felt great. After a while you sort of get condition and feel that being tired is normal.

6 years later after being off anti-depressant, the brain fogs and bad performance in school/work urges you to do something to find out what's wrong. Occasionally there are a few days in a year you feel really good, like a kid full of energy and motivation. Revisit to counselor and psychologist mentioned that it might be a misdiagnosis.

Was refereed to sleep doctor, and he initially mentioned I'm too young and fit to be suffering from sleep apnea, but why not do a sleep study just in case? Results came out, AHI of 20. Imagine how that feel.... Misdiagnosis after 11 years.... Diagnosed 5 months ago, waited for 3 months before 5 stages came and left, and I was thinking there is no harm is following up with CPAP therapy.

Well you are on the right track, at least you did something to help yourself, and managed to figure out sleep apnea might be the ultimate cause.

On Resmed Autoset S9, P10 Mask, No humidifier as my country is humid enough.

1st month of starting CPAP: feels like nothing much, feels like nothing much is going change, nothing is going to improve it. Not really that positive that my life will improve.
Rare days in the first month : felt really clear minded, not motivated, but clear minded. didn't yawn as much, but still can't concentrate as well when people spoke to me
Challenges in 1st month: getting the right pressure, right EPR, getting lanolin to relief soreness, and adjusting mask and sleeping position to get the best sleep
Things to improved from 1st month: lesser AHI from 3 to <1.5, get an oximeter, figured out the difference between CPAP and APAP mode, worrying about CA when sleepy study only shows hypopnea

2nd month of starting CPAP: feels generally less tired, some improvement in thought process, thinking why the hell didn't i find a sleep doctor earlier
Rare days in first month: feeling energetic even with 6 hours of sleep. worst days are still with brain fog, but lesser yawning in the day.
Challenges in 2nd month: still waking once or twice a night. these are conscious wakes. P10 makes getting sticky tubing from washing with baby shampoo, reading a lot post on apnea forum, and to keep reminding myself that no i don't probably have CA and don't need an ASV.
Things to improved for 2nd month: fine tuning of OA and HA. Need fine increment of minimum pressure. CA are generally controlled, read from forum these are common, and will take time to get used to. oxmeter shows very little increase in heartbeat and SP02 desaturation below 88%

Hi Chefmate,

I sympathise with you as i feel exactly the same as you do. I've suffered from chronic depression and anxiety for most of my adult life. Fatigue and exhaustion is the major factor. Now, what i have to say may not be popular but this is what i have found after being diagnosed with severe sleep apnea (ahi of 41) before treatment.

CPAP has only helped a little. I've been on it now for close to three years and am still exhausted everyday. I can quite easily sleep for 16-17 hours a day. My psychiatrist puts it down to depression. Two sleep doctors have said i suffer from either EDS or Idiopathic Hypersomnia. Both conditions are pretty much the same. Which one is it - or is it a combination of all three? No one can really tell me. I've been tested for RLS and PLMD but doctors have ruled this out.

I've been prescribed dexoamphetamine (medical speed, stimulant) to keep me awake however i'm currently using Modafinil which i ordered online. Modafinil is good. It keeps you really focused without anxiety side effects of dexoamphetamine but you are still tired so it's certainly no wonder drug for fatigue or tiredness.

I guess i just wanted to share what i've been through and not give you any false hopes. If you're like me, you get really excited when promised that something will make you feel a whole heap better only to be disappointed and more depressed when it doesn't work out. Don't get me wrong, please give CPAP a go as it may be a huge help but it's certainly not the wonder cure for everyone.

I've just learned to live with my condition and rely on antidepressants and therapist to get me through.

Hope this has been helpful.

Glad you're all set - be sure to turn on your machine, mask up, and watch TV for a while before you try sleeping with all that garb on your face. You will probably have leaks unless you are one of the few lucky ones, so be sure to realize that not all masks fit alike and you can keep trying them till you find one that works for you. There will be other bumps in the road, but we're here for you and can help with each one.
